Hi everyone
Just a few words to say hello :D . I have been lurking around for a while now and thought I'd join in with the banter! I've noticed a few Brits on the site and thought I'd boost the numbers. This is one hell of a good site, I particularly like the projects they are superb, the renovation of my Commando is a long term project and when I suss it out I will be posting photos to show my err, slow progress, it has been going on for over 20 years now!!! but I'm sure you guys will give me a boot up the backside as encouragement ha ha.

Cheers
Cheshire bloke

Ayup CheshireBloke. That's one long rebuild! Get it back together before your too old to ride...

Welcome an all that

Cheers and thanks for the welcome lads. Yes it is a loooooong rebuild but family stuff got in the way, and buying a new Triumph didn't help with the 'Norton experience' so I am going to rebuild my classic from the wheels up. The last time I was fiddling around with it a few years ago I remember finding a small crack in the gearbox casing which has been bugging me for years because I left it as was, and now I think it's time to sort it out. When the pics are posted you will see a bike in good nick and wonder why I need to strip it!

Cheshire Cat ,if this gearbox crack is a small hairline fracture between the layshaft bearing and the mainshaft bearing recesses then you have nothing to worry about for regular driving about. If you race or pop wheelies then spend big coin on an aftermarket trans. casing. Many boxes have this hairline fracture. You will be fitting a roller layshaft bearing in there !

Cheshire Cat!! why didn't I think of that doh!! :D Thanks for the advice Torontonian I will have a look at it soon enough and like you say hopefully I have nothing to worry about, but I picked up some aluminium welding rod from a show a while ago which doesn't tarnish and looks just like ally, as used by Scania trucks apparently, so any excuse to get the blow lamp out and do a bit of welding yay!!
Its a '76 MK3 Interpol and its first owner was the Liverpool police force who put about 45000 miles on its chronometric speedo which I've kept and had refurbished for the resto (I like the chronomentric it has a bit of class that other speedos don't have). Oh, I didn't think a Norton could wheelie???
