Late in 2008 I fitted new pistons to my 850, at the time I thought the pin circlips were a bit loose they rotated in the groove a bit to easy. After pulling the head and barrel to fix a couple of oil leaks I noticed the circlips had rotated, pulled them out and checked appears they are 17mm and not 11/16 about 1/2mm to small.Every thing else appears to be alright with the pistons and rings still in good condition after about 15000kms so quality isn't a problem.
Don't know if I got a one off or thats the way they send them out but it's not good

Great, I fit an awful lot of JCC pistons but I am not usually involved in assembling the engine. I haven't heard of any loose clips but I will be taking a close look. Thanks Jim.

I went a bit round de round on wire type to clip types rotating from where I left them to find its a total non issue as long as not coming out to rub bore raw. If wire type might spread them a bit to cling more securely. Edgy side of the clip type faces outward of course. Some forgo clips and use Al or composite plugs. If JCC pistons are the standard Taiwan stock most vendors supply then I'm happy with wire type retainers as supplied in a recent rebuild with 700 miles on her fine. My main issue, as you know, is making sure I've actually got them installed fully.
