ok took the bike out today, revs kept going up to 3000 for no reason, turned the bike of after 20 mins of riding, then it was ok, then on the way back did it again, turned it off and on agoain, curried it again but engine management light on, got home, restarted it it and management light was off

Hello David , I know you have a new bike . And it is frustrating when it doesn't work like it should . I for one wish that Norton can get this all figured out ! Your bike must still be under warranty , so keep a running list of the problems and get it back to Norton before your warranty expires.

Mine runs up to 2400. When it does, I check the IAM flange and it always seems to loosen a bit and sits ever so slightly cockeyed. Tight it up with a 3MM hex key. Can't be positive that is your problem but it's worked for me on numerous occasions. The stiff bent hose from the airbox puts pressure on it and causes it to come apart. May eventually try a softer more flexible hose.

As a matter of fact, it could use a little tightening now. Low idle and stall when cold, slightly high idle, less responsive throttle drop when hot. It's not as gapped as in the past. Wondering if I could shim this or put a thin gasket. Right now its just plastic to plastic surface to surface. I'm afraid it's eventually going to warp. See the gap on the bottom of the flange?? Every time I straighten that out, it runs great.

This is also known as a stepper motor on Ducati's, would that be right? I had this problem with my Sportclassic revving high. The problem was this motor staying open after idle had bee achieved. Fix was to spray some WD40 in there to prevent it from sticking open.

Couldn't say if anything is sticking in there, although this time around in only hangs up there for a few seconds and then drops. I just have to be aware when approaching a busy intersection not to rely so much on engine break on decel and be more mindful of clutch and break. I'll open it up and try the WD40, but I still have to keep an eye on that flange.

Do the screws loosen up on you and back themselves out ? Can loctite help here ?

It can. I had put a tiny drop once but I think needs a little more. However, a half turn in one screw made a difference. That hose tilts the flange up .

1st gen tiger 800s have the same setup with similar problems. I haven't had to address it.....yet. One tiger owner disabled the mechanical bits but left it plugged in to keep the computer happy, then rigged a setup similar to the old manual Japanese idle adjuster. No idea if that could be applied in this situation.
