Is this a norton?

I believe what you have there is a slimline featherbed frame that someone has removed the rear subframe and swinging arm from and substituted with a customised set up.

Why would this be removed? So a good find then? Can you give me any info on the other items? https://photos.app.goo.gl/CoBYgv9ovc4qKHQw8 Thanks x

Looks like a former race set up. Not much originality going on but to add to the modified frame, the front triple trees and forks were changed and not Norton. Has alloy rims with front and rear disc brakes, non-standard. The hubs do not appear to be Norton. Aftermarket alloy fuel and central oil tank. Crankcase is a standard 500cc Model 88 and has incorrect/incomplete fixings. Numbers on the left lower frame gusset (in front of the foot peg) will tell you what the frame is originally from. Tach is non-standard type. Whole lot of bitsa going on.

+1 on FE comments.
There is also the bastardisation of the head steady (actually reinforcement of the upper headstock) by welding a steeply raked tube in its place.
I don't think it will be nearly as effective - meaning the front frame down-tubes will likely crack somewhere below the headstock if left (and ridden) this way.

could be interesting, could be a nightmare.

won't know 'till you spend a lot of time and effort, maybe money too.

As to whether or not it’s a good find depends largely on what you want to do with it and what your capabilities are… and what it cost.

If you want to build a special then it’s a perfect starting point as you’re not going to sacrifice a good motorcycle to do so. So if that’s what you want, and you have the skills and equipment to do so, crack on!

But it’s not a viable starting point for a restoration.

Know nothing about bikes. It was in my shed. No papers. Willing to sell. You will have to tell me how to look for names etc.

Swinging arm looks alloy to me, so not Dresda.

Your best bet is to share the engine number with the guys on this forum who’ll then be able to tell you exactly what the engine is.

The frame is a modified slimline featherbed.

The frame number (unless removed) will be on the left hand side gusset plate (ie where the swinging arm spindle mounts.

Looks like someone’s ex race bike project to me, could be why there are no papers etc. The oil and petrol tank look well made.

Then, armed with this info and as many clear pics as you can, put it on eBay as a ‘Norton featherbed cafe race / race bike project’. Whatever it sells for is what it’s worth !

I'd love a "feathered" Norton

"slime line"? is that a Freudian Slip?

I think the forks & yokes are Spondon, as fitted to Silk 700s.
