Hello to all,
I just now got the triple trees on the 70 Commando (XBSKT2). I need some help to determine whether or not I need a washer that was needed for the ball bearings. I now have tapered roller bearings and I'm wondering if Ball Race Washer - PN 17429 is still needed. I mocked it up a few times and it seems the only use with the new bearings would be to space the inner race up off the lower tree so that the outer cage of the bearing didn't rub when compressed. The problem I have is that it adds to the distance between the bottom tree and the headstock. This means the steering stops don't engage much with the tree.
Another option is to put the washer on top of the upper bearing under the dust cover (the drawing doesn't specify) but I don't see a need for it in that location.
Where is the washer SUPPOSED to be and what did it do?

Any help appreciated.
