A friend is after a 5-speed g/box for his Dominator. Mick Hemmings was advertising them in Classic Bike Guide magazine last January. He's tried two phone numbers found online and gets message that numbers are no longer listed. The forum link to his email address via Andover's site doesn't work either. Is he still in business and does anyone know current contact details?

Cheers, Graeme

Mick closed his retail shop and does not do Norton spare parts anymore. However he has set up his workshop and machine tools at his home and continues to do work, which I understand includes the Quaife gearbox business. I don't have a phone number, but do have contact with Angie Hemmings and will ask.

When did that happen. I ordered and received two Hemmings layshaft bearings last month, December. I emailed Angela to place the order.

It happened during last year well before December, but 'Hemmings' layshaft bearings are specials, related to Quaife business!

Angie says contact by email for gearbox stuff: angelahemmings0@gmail.com

The AN stock they used to hold went back to AN and AN themselves informed the world of what they had taken on, including things like Fullauto heads and one piece cranks.

Thanks for all the info. Quaife said that Mick Hemmings is the exclusive distributor for the g/boxes and passed on my query. I got this reply overnight:

Hello Graeme,
You have enquired with Quaife re 6-speed gearbox for 'your friend's' dominator.
This is no problem, in stock - no kickstart provision [race] - 5-speed have kickstart provision.
We are sole sellers on these Norton boxes as our development!
Price is £2,850 [magnesium cases, drum action]. Please tell your friend to get in touch if he wants more detail.
Freight to NZ is the worst in the world!!!!!!! Cannot guess until built, packed and weighed with dimensions, but I guess around £150-190 and it is a guess. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you become serious as we will require his preference for gearchange etc.

Best wishes from a freezing old England !

MICK HEMMINGS.

Yes, Mick and Angela are a cottage business out of their house now. She is good about email, angelahemmings0@gmail.com , and the most current telephone is 01327 844877. International dialers need to omit the leading 0 and add country code 44 to the beginning.
I purchased some transmission bits recently and the same level of excellent service.

Do they sell the Norvil front brake kits still? Apparently, Kenny from NYC Norton uses them still.
Thanks.

I believe that side of the business is now with Andover Norton.
So I was confused about this and was put right by Mick. My understanding is that all his bits went to Andover. The Norvil front brake kit is via the other crowd (not RGM) whom I have never dealt with. I may be wrong. By the way if looking for a front brake setup consider Norman Whyte, I have both, the Norvil is frickin huge and heavy.
Edit:- just looked at Andover they do the twin disc 'Norvil' mod. I guess 'Norvil' is used by several outlets.

Dang, I don't have my lifetime supply of vernier isolastic adjusters!

You can still get the Verniers from Mick Hemmings. I spoke with Angela last week and ordered as set, they arrived within 3 days.

Just placed an order for the rear iso adjuster and the layshaft ball bearing with all needed ancillary bits & bobs to perform the R/R. What a pleasure to chat with them both on the phone! Old school, for sure, but hey, that's why we like these bikes in the first place! Didn't have the heart to ask them if they'd consider using PayPal to ease the credit card number & address verbatim checking that we needed to do.
They also got a kick out of hearing I was birthed in Yeovil and that my grandmother worked nearly 40 yrs at the Royal Enfield factory in Redditch....

Small World! I wasn't born in Yeovil, but lived there for 7 years whilst working in Design at Westlands.
Good to hear Mick and Angie are still going strong. Having met them I'd hate to get on the wrong side of Angie!

I was whisked away from Yeovil to Canada at the ripe old age of two, so I've got no working memory of the place. I believe my Dad also work at Westlands as an aeronautical engineer.

Very much alive and well, I was asking advice just prior to Xmas. All things QuaifeNorton. Probably does jobs such as engine rebuilds, will certainly build (provide parts if required) you a gearbox. Drop him (Angela) a line, normally responds by return.
