Just wondering is anybody has had any issues with this bush, as in tight as a crabs backside at 50 fathoms!

Duh, I think he means the timing chest idler.
it Has nothing to do with gearbox.

Hydraulic press old one out, press new one in and ream to size. Piece of cake. :)

Holy shit man a one liner ,can't get your link to load. If it was for a reamer I ain't got one.

I have fitted the occasional bush that has needed some adjusting , but this one takes ma's homemade apple pie ,it's small ID and large OD and my agricultural methods are proving somewhat slow to achieve the desired affect .

Thanks for that info , I can see a journey for me and my gear , for both of us to get reamed.

Ugh fogged out on the intermediate part of subject line. The links is only for AMC bush reaming.

Maybe you need to validate the condition of the id of the old bush and the od of the spindle, unless they're both roached. If one is so bad that needs to be replaced, then the other can't be all that good either.

Re: Intermediate gear bush replacement

Nah, Gumby says "do it yourself".
I reamed 2 new trans gear bushes with a deep well socket wrapped with 600 grit emery paper and some WD40 as a cutting lube.
Use a socket that is the closest ID fit. Obviously I did this after pressing the bush into the gear. Take it slow.
Easy Peasy. Worked great.

Re: Intermediate gear bush replacement

The bush is oversize by .40mm ,it sure is taking a bit of easing . All parts are sound ,I have a gear with bush that fits ok but now I've started I will continue till satisfactory outcome. Oh by the way have you still got those sixties dental tools Mark! This job is getting rougher than Mahatma Ghandis' flip flops!

Make sure the spindle is in the right position. The oil hole needs to be down.

Spindle came out with cover ,am going to stick it with bush retainer as it seems to be not bad. It appears that my bearings are not in the halfs properly as I have no end float on the crank, when I sort that out I will stick it in place.

Regards J

Got about 18 thou endfloat on crank after a bit of reading it's maybe a bit much but was going to leave it at that.

Clearance will tighten up with heating and the rods tend to hold crank centered too and likely tolerant even if crank is pulled to one side by such small amount. The late great Mr. Hudson of instruction video fame wouldn't think twice about this little slack. On this note does anyone know which side the crank might be pulled to under load?
