I have recently noticed that IP addresses are currently being displayed in the User/Avatar Box on the right hand side of almost every post. Is this a mistake or server glitch? I always thought that this was private information as I've never seen this displayed on any other forum.

What's up with this?

Yeah, I'm not exactly happy about this either. But IPs are easy to change.

You can thank the spammers. It's another way for the Forum to do a little self policing.
Jerry is only one person, so a few more sets of eyes helping can't hurt.
The price of doing business.

IF you want to personally experience spammers, put up a craigslist ad and use texting to correspond.

The spammers are easy to spot to say the least,report the post and it and the account is removed by the moderation saving them a bit of work.
That floating box is still a PITA though.

There is no choice about the name thing that I have noticed,it will not allow anything but something there.

I understand the need to foil spammers and that moderator(s) have better things to do.
And I know that every internet site that is visited has access to the IP address of the visitor.
But I feel this posting of IP address exposes legit members to possible harm from other dangerous internet types.
Just think this cure is worse than the seeming minor illness.
Perhaps there could be more moderators added?
I am willing.

One moderator has, up to now, usually managed to delete and ban (the relatively few) spam posts and posters that get through in a few minutes or a few hours at most.
It does help when members use the report button to highlight these posts, what isn't helpful is when members reply to spam posts as it makes them more difficult to spot.

Your IP address does not give any information out about you. It only states your general location, for example "Southern California" and the ISP that you use. I am not sure how else to police users who sign up with 2 different usernames to slam other people, create scams and promote products/ services. Since some are unhappy I have decided to program it so only Les and I see your IP addresses posted. I have had bad feedback about posting your real names too, so I am removing that as well.
