Hello photobucket users,

As you probably now PB has banned external image links. I can at least make it easy so you can find your broken photobucket images.

Please can you go back to your posts and change/ remove the photobucket broken links. Here are some search mechanisms to find your broken photobucket links. Find your photobucket username in the url string. We will use our friendly username pierodn as an example. Look at only one of your broken photos like this:

http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a569/pierodn/bb77a0846e0a6637246dde13ce7e342a_zpsada35a66.jpg

So now go to a Google search window and type this in the search box:

accessnorton.com: pierodn
Upon searching this it should find all pages that have broken photobucket links for that photobucket user pierodn.

Let me know if you have any questions or better ideas about this.

EDIT: I will be running an SQL query that will remove all dead links in a few weeks.

That's a handy way to search, but for some reason it only showed 6 of my photo links. I'll try it later after I think I've converted all my photo links, to see which ones I might have missed.

I've been going over my posts from the beginning, slowly converting all the photobucket links to forum attachments. It's pretty straightforward, but does take some time. So far I've converted the photo links for the earliest three pages of my posts. Only 38 pages left to go  I'm starting to feel guilty for using so much space on your server. Would it be better for the site if people like me switched to a different photo host site instead? I have the cheapest "no ads" account with PB, and it doesn't allow 3rd party links, but so far I'm not having a problem with them busting my links. But it sounds like it could happen any time, so I'm looking at other options. This forum is the only reason I have a photobucket account, so I'll probably cancel it once I get my posts all sorted out.

Ken

EDIT: I have updated my original post to search PB username instead of user ID.

Try searching using your photobucket username (kcanaga).
I suggest you use the forum search rather than Google search option.

Update. Some of my PB links are disappearing now, so they will pretty soon probably all be gone. I'll try to work faster at fixing them. I'm for sure not paying the kind of money PB wants for allowing 3rd party links.

Ken

Hi Ken,

Dont worry about the space too much. Best case scenario is to use Google drive as they are not going anywhere...

Cheers

Jerry, your idea of searching sounded good but I had used a linked picture for my avatar so when I searched it just found all my posts whether they had pic's or not. I've just slogged through them and think I've corrected all the links. I've used Photoimage and just hope they don't close down or start charging some astronomical fee.

Hi Ian,

Yes, that is a good point. I suppose fix the avatar image first. To that point if anyone sees a photobucket failing avatar let me know the username here on the forum and i can remove these. I am in the process of writing some scripts that will remove all these old broken links. I wont run the scripts for a while though, to give users a chance to fix the photos.

I have a feeling that the other photo storage companies will do the same thing. They want you to go to their site so they get the advertising revenue. Some people have space they pay for but dont realize it. For example:

One hub, if you have office 365, not really sure how that works
Amazon Prime, i think some one mentioned
Some ISP might give you space with your account
Use your Google suite and google drive or google photos,

Most importantly, make sure you have a backup of all photos locally. Things are sketchy right now and it might be getting worse due to possible changes in net neutrality.

Using Google search engine as Jerry suggests brought up everyone of my posts regardless if they contained a PB image or not.

Using the Forums own search engine, with my username in the keyword field preceeded with a plus sign, then with my Forum Username in the author's field, worked just fine.

I've got so many PB links I can't imagine trying to fix it all. It would take me days to go through my PB pics. Personally, I'll let them expire and if anyone wants the pic, they can contact me. So if you want Jerry, just delete mine if you don't mind, run the script on mine, If that's an option. I doubt if I'll be using PB anymore anyhow. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, at this point I may just let it go and even get rid of my PB account. They've gotten to be too erratic anyhow, it takes me too long to do anything there. It's unfortunate.

^^^ same with me ^^^^
Jerry, you can delete my stuff too. I know that I'm never going to get around to fixing the links to all of the pics I have posted.
This whole situation sucks, I can only imagine how bad it is affecting forums like this one with so many tech threads laced with pics.

I was just thinking this AM, if someone wants to see the pic can't they just copy the link for the picture by left clicking on the non-photo, paste it into a new tab and strip out the IMG verbiage? I'm not going to bother deleting all my PB pics unless they delete my account. I'm thinking I can still post links to my pics without the IMG data? That would sure be simpler than editing days worth of links. I haven't tried it, but I may and then if Jerry deletes the IMG posts, the stuff would truly be gone. Is the bad pic data hurting anything other than looking stupid in the thread? And it's PB that's looking stupid.

Its going to be a while before I get to delete old broken image links. Too busy here with other work :)

Well, I'm less than happy to report that copying the link location and pasting it into a new tab does nothing but bring up the same dead 3rd party pic. I've been working on so much data stuff lately I need to go ride on the JD2020 and mow about 10 acres of grass to actually get something done. We've recently gotten 2 'smart' phones and that's been a data disaster. I don't need this stuff. What does it actually mean anyhow? It seems like all I do with this 'smart data' stuff is wonder what I've done and accomplished absolutely nothing except give Amazon, Google and Gates all our info, kind of like when this all started in the 90's. Marketing has taken over in more ways than one. I'm glad I won't be here in probably 10 years. You young guys can fill in the details, I did what I could but there were too many forces against me. I'm glad I had a Norton. Rant over.

Try right click>'View image', that should take you to the Photobucket page, then click 'Reload current page' in your browser.

Yes, Les, that works. I even tried it on someone else's pic and it works too, so why not just leave things as they are so the pics are available, if a bit erratic. I have no intention of deleting all my PB posts unless they do it for me. Interesting thing is once the pic has loaded, go back to the thread page and the good image stays there. I suppose until the cache or something like that is cleared.

I tried the google search approach, it only turned up 7 of my posts.

Then I tried installing and using google drive. I loaded all my Norton pics into it, but I don't know where they are or how to find them. I don't have a teenager to call on for help.

But none of that matters.

As I look at the screen now, there is a white-on-blue "p" symbol and text that says "add image to post". Clicking on that takes me to "postimage" which apparently is a photo hosting site. I don't know where that came from. As Steve Urkel would say: "did I do that?" I dunno. Has it always been there? I dunno.
Anyway, one more click gives access to my computer's photo files. Just select the one you want and away you go. Too easy. For now anyway, until they do a photobucket.

It's something Jerry added a short while ago.

I sort of suspected that. He did it quietly. It's easy to use. I've been going through my posts and replacing my photobucket links with it.
