Who cares, right? Anyhow, you fellows were so helpful with that JPN I rebuilt,

I'm baaaack!

I thought I'd show you what walked in the door tonight. A '74 850 roadster that the owner re-fit with Fastback parts back in '76. He's had it under a blanket in his house since the front brake locked 12 years ago. It's clean as a pin, and I'd really like to have it. But I have no idea how the missing original Roadster parts affect value. Any opinions? No, of course not...

Oh shucks...of course it would be nice if it still had the steel tank. Some people (a lot of them on this forum) love fastbacks. But that fiberglass tank problem is, well a problem. Where it me? I would buy it regardless and then start saving up to have someone make a custom alloy Fastback tank, or I would buy a steel Interstate and turn it into an Interback!

Just do it.

I suppose a common Fastback is Second Best , to a L R Fastback , which has Real Class and Ancestry .
A Roadster though , is common as mud , and comes about Tength on that scale. :P An Interste obviously has more Class ,
even though its not a ' real ' Commando .

Hows the J P N , still in your mits ?

Fastback had a number of styling cues the Japs later picked up on , If you want a 74 Fastback , you ussually have to build it yourself.Though if you wanted rarity and originality , youd obviously go for a Hi Rider .  .

Value!!??

You like it, you want it, if you can afford it, it's value is just right! If your plan is to sell it for a profit, then you ought to be looking at something other than an old motorcycle.

Looks pretty nice just the way it sits!

Welcome back, Stu. That's a nice looking bike. I think you should buy it! Set some money aside for an alloy tank and in the meantime try not to put any E10 in that one. These bikes run good on 100LL. :)

Looks like a nice sharp bike. I do love the fastbacks, minus the 'ears' on the seats. Best looking commando IMO, although I'll agree the LR fastbacks are nice. One of the local guys up here has one. I was planning on using the '71 tank I have at home (last run in the 70's so no modern crap in it) for better capacity on my early roadster, but decided to go for a steel interstate in the end because of modern fuel issues. If you can swing it, I'd say go for it and have a fun machine. Just make sure the tank is properly prepped or replaced before running modern fuels in it.

Looks like a good bike, mostly complete. I say buy it!! apart from putting a gaping big hole in your wallet what harm could it do? :D And the JPN is one bike I'd like to own!

Hi Debby! I wouldn't dare put any E10 in that fiberglass tank. I'm going to use Caswell's Phenol Novolac in it and let it cure for at least a week. The guy is getting nostalgic over the bike and balking at selling. He's taking the MSF beginner course today. If he decides to sell and doesn't ask a collector price for it, I may end up with it. It looks good but needs at least $500 in parts and a lot of love.
