Hi All,

My dual output coil failed yesterday (out of range resistance measured on primary and secondary circuits). It was a 3 ohm (primary circuit), provided in Pazon's ignition kit.

Does it matter if I replace it with a 4,5 ohm one (that I can find more easily) ?

Have you ever heard of coils collapsing when used with a Sure Fire?

Thanks for your advice.

Laurent

I used the $25 OEM looking ones from MAP. One failed within a year due to bad workmanship, other wise they work fine. Sure Fire also.

My bike love the SureFire with the Dynatek Dyna Ignition Coils Coil 5 ohm Dual Output DC7-1.
Although I have a mag on now, this setup is on the shelf in standby mode.

Put two NAPA 6 volt coils in my Enfield. Electrical system identical to a Commando.
Worked well until last week when one coil lost continuity and I walked about 7 miles home....
If I was on points I could have limped home on one cylinder. Drawback of electronic ignition.

Have taken your advise and bought the Dyna, should arrive tomorrow.

Emgos are about 30 each, Trispark twice that, Dyna was 60 and change. Maybe I get a spare
when going out past the corner store. 45 years of brit bikes and Ive never had a coil failure before.

Thanks to you all for your replies.

I've just got confirmation from Andy at Pazon's that a 4,5 or 5 ohms (primary circuit) coil is OK for a Sure Fire on a Commando and will get one quickly.

Andy also confirmed that installing the coil in the alloy heat sink that he provides (or in a home-made one) is important.

L.
