Finally finished this years scheduled maintenance today

- layshaft bearing replaced with a roller bearing, gearbox inspected and reassembled
- clutch hub replaced, plates cleaned, clutch rod seal installed
- chaincase properly shimmed so that it doesn't rub on the swingarm and chain
- countershaft sprocket and drive chain replaced
- rear brake shoes installed
- chain oiler tube plugged and welded up on the oil tank, new oil lines
- carbs cleaned and set up

Many thanks to the forum and members for advice and tips!

Fired first kick, warmed her up and set the idle and then off on the shake down cruise, few laps around the neighbourhood , clutch smooth, shifting nice, running well, time to venture further afield, all seems well then the throttle cable snaps... Walk her home a kilometer in the blazing sun and 32C heat. Guess I won't be taking her to Port Dover for the Friday the 13th rally tommorow. But she didn't leak any oil...yet

Or SOMETHING ELSE altogether .

Pays to see if you can get the thing set so WFO at the twistgrip matches at the slide. If the slide bottoms ( TOPS ) before the cable , in ones entusiasim
the cable breaks one lap from the finish , while in the lead . This is called being bettered by ones entusiasm . :?
Whats a throttle cable or two between friends , dual ones take half the load , I guess .

Not the end of the world . Anyway . :P

Whereabouts in the cable did it snap? was it frayed? Believe it or not keeping a tube of superglue in the toolkit has got me home,[really does hold too] & riding always beats pushing I.M.O.

Switch out your choke cable for a temporary throttle cable. Pull out the choke slides. You will not need them at this time of year. That is if you have Amals. 8) I'll be heading to Port Dover with about 7 other CVMG members. Leaving Binbrook at 7 am.

Cool JAW I'd of not thought it'd repair a cable. Btw after ordering new muffler rubbers and fixing master cylinder leak Trixie's seat now has 1" long split in seat top...

Many long range riders run a spare clutch cable along the first just in case so handy to keep going soon. Run it to the stop Matt.

Its a simple fix, it broke right at the lead bead at the twistgrip. I considered pulling off the choke cable and would have done so if I wasn't so close to home. I have a old one in the 'box o parts' and will swap out this morning for the time being, ordered a new one for the cosmetic appeal

Should be a good day at Dover, I hear they are expecting 175,000. Went up in April, mostly HD's and metric cruisers and the usual riff raff, no Nortons but there was a nice collection of 70's MotoGuzzi's. Have an Arbor Dog for me.

I had it happen to my Triumph clutch cable, so I melted the solder with a lighter & glued the frayed wire strands back into the nipple, worked well enough as a stop-gap to get home.

Good idea! I put the on the spare from the 'box o parts' but it was frayed under the sheath and the twistgrip felt crunchy and the slides were sticking. Waiting for the new one.

Best to have a non-sticking throttle cable, it can be a bit fraught even with a functional kill-switch [you should experience an airleak caused engine speed auto-ignition runaway on a 2-stroke,that wont respond to the kill-switch, that`ll wake you up!]
