Have they had updates to them? What I mean is could I be buying one that was an earlier revision? Do they even have revision numbers?

There are plenty on Ebay for under $150 US.

I just don't want to buy something and find out it is something that has been sitting on a shelf for 5 years.

Any recommendations or experiences where to buy from?

thanks,
jon

there was a prior report of a SureFire failing to fire d/t the fit and spacing of rotor on cam mount, missing the trigger coils or something, But Every Test in list tested just fine. I wonder if my own failing to fire but very very intermittently SureFire was a manufactured fitting issue I failed to check as didn't even consider that possible until this other failure report and finding. Any feedback on that follow up as i put points back being Unsure to try my SureFire failure again as only thing vendor replaced was black box not the trigger components. We were just guessing on the black box at that time, but lost a weekend of riding as well as wasting my buddies weekend too.

Best to buy direct on the Pazon website with free shipping. Usually takes 7-10 days to get to the states. I've also been running an Altair since last August and I'm very happy with it. The Altairs run around $250 US shipped. The basic version is the SureFire which is the one around for less than $150 US. I just bought a version of this one for my Matchless G3 single. They list it as for the Norton lightweights but the larger (3" diameter) trigger board will fit my Matchless. Just have to do a little sex change and adapt the rotor to have a female taper rather than a male taper.

Great info and links. Thank you. Now one more question. The Altair lists it for street going and competition bikes. I will never race or push the bike. It is just not how I ride. Would it be a waste of an extra $100 to get the Altair? From what I am seeing, the Sure-fire, will probably fit the bill.

Get it right from Pazon. Best price, free world wide shipping, always fresh. $128.43 to your door.

At that price you could have 1 for spare, but I rarely here of one failing (I shouldn't have said that ).

I got the SureFire from MAP, about the same price in a few days. Seems to work for me, but I can't speak to the idle since I need to work on the carbs, the slides are worn. I'm sure it's not the Pazon, it did the same with points, I have an idle dip coming off closed throttle. You will need 2 6V coils in case you have the 12V coil setup, otherwise I think you just remove the ballast, condensers, points and wire it up.

Dave its not too troublesome to put some grease on the slides to get good idea of how much they are bothering idle and lasts long enough to get a ways off before self removed.

Drone I put one on my A65 about 4 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Hasn't missed a beat.

like I told you a while back, get rid of the sparks as the quality ( or lack of ) is horrible.

Couldn't agree more, Windy. Sparks = pure Sh*t. BTW...phone is on the crap...couldn't call you back...I'll give you a ring after I visit the Verizon store tomorrow. Other news: made the 200+ mile round-trip ride from St. Pete up to Floral City this past weekend. Visited the Hess station and kicked tires with the gang there. News is that "Ducati Carl" blew a rod on one of the twisty back roads a few weeks ago...locked the back tire and threw the poor old guy to the ground....he's OK, but aparrently recovering slowly.

sorry to hear about carl. call me when you get the phone fixed and maybe we can get together on the other stuff soon.

i run the SureFire in my '73 850 and have absolutely no isues with it. You can set it at 31 degrees @ 4000 rpm for general use and @ 5000 rpm if you want to race it.
I have set mine at 31 degrees @ 4000 rpm and rarely rev my motor over 5000 rpm , just rely on higher corner speed and run /cruise at 4000 rpm here in the twisty winding roads of New Zealand
Cant fault it for my use and a first kick starter everytime!!
Regards Mike

Im ordering it for use on my Vincent project, theyhave a model made just for the Terry prince twin plug heads.

Not $150 tho, more like $900, just for us sillyVincent owners!

Here's another very satisfied Pazon Surefire customer.
Tossed the Boyar and will probably never use one again. But I think I still have maybe 2 new sets on the shelf---may decide to sell to finance other items in need.
I think I may have gone through 3 or 4 Boyars in the last 20 years or so. That may be the average life
span---these were installed in several different bikes. They won't last forever.
I also have aTrispark on the shelf for another project in progess so will have the two of them to compare some day.

You can't fault Pazon for service and support. They even sent me the dimensions of the Surefire rotor so I can machine up 1/8" longer versions to suit my 1/8' shorter cam. They will supply and fit the special magnets. Later on they may make new trigger plates with longer pick up poles. Good guys to deal with.
