While in Sydney a few years ago, I bought my wife a pair of boots for when she rode on the back of the commando. As my 44 year old flying boots leaked, I used to borrow her boots to ride to Norton Rally when she didn't come.
At the last rally in Mahia, the sole came of the r/h boot and the rubber sandwich in the left boot started breaking up as well. The rubber sandwich between the boot and the sole was made of a softer rubber that had gone rotten. I sent an email to the manufacturer about it, and got an automated reply saying they would get back to me. A week later I emailed again, suggesting I might send photos of the boots to them, and got no reply again. A week later I sent the photos and the email bounced back. I thought it might have been because the photos were too big , so deleted the photos and resent the email. that bounced back as well. They look like they have blocked my emails. Some support they offered.
I have made the decision to be more observant about what boots to buy from now on. They will have to be stitched on soles or nothing. Looks like I can get stitched on soles for hardly much more thant the $275.00 AU they are being sold for at some outlets.

I made contact with another seller in Oz who kindly replied to my emails. He suggested I got in touch with the shop I bought them from [ which is what I would suggest under the circumstances ]. Unfortunately, I don't know where that shop is now [ C R A F T disease ].

Here is the address I wrote to. Would any of you guys consider buying Rossi Boots?

Get yourself some SIDI On Roads and they will likely see you out. I have a well worn 12 year old pair, can still ride 8 hrs in heavy rain and have dry feet at the end of the day.
On top of that it seems like they will never wear out. They get more scuffed up every year but the sole is hardly worn, the connection to the upper is perfect and the uppers, though heavily scuffed, will last a long time yet.

I recall reading one test of a large group of high end waterproof motorcycle boots. At the end of it, the testers declared
that the Sidi On road is likely the only truly waterproof motorcycle boot made, though many claim to be waterproof.

Thanks Glen,./ I see Sidi are sold in NZ

Funny thing, I got a reply from Rossi this morning. Apparently in damp/moist climates [ like ours ] their polyurethane mid sole breaks down to powder if the boots are not worn all the time. Funny I don't remember reading that on the guarantee.
They have offered to repair them for $100.00 AU plus my freight across to Ozzy. I don't think it is worth it so have declined their offer.
All the best.

ps this was originally posted under Norton Commando because thats the only part of the forum I have time to look at.

I have a pair of SIDI Mega Ways that are seven years old now and still keep the feet dry in a deluge. They are a bit more reasonably priced than other SIDI offerings.

My sheepskin lined Rossi boots are still going strong after 40+ years,
even if they are so thick and woolly they don't get worn much (too hot).
They have been through a few cyclones and survived.
I don't remember if they were ever entirely waterproof though - cyclones are like that...

I had a pair of fairly good shoes have the soles disintegrate quite quickly a while back, after they got wet (once !).
I took them to the local shoe repair guy in the shopping centre, and he bonded a new pair of soles on,
took several days, for about $50. They have been excellent.
He looked to have some workboot type soles available, maybe you should try local.
I have since noticed a number of shoe repairers about, I'd thought they may be a dying craft, until I needed one and looked about.

Re: How long should Rossi 811motorcycle boots last on comman

Rossi got back to me again about the boots. The offer to repair them still on the table but if they do the same thing again, we will end up with the soles degrading again so not an option. It rains a lot over here and we do live in a very humid climate here in Kerikeri.
I will look at the Sidi option as well.
Why Rossi don't make them with decent solid sole and fit replaceable soft inner soles in them, I don't know. I suggested we use our boots for riding bikes for protection, not to walk around in them all day long. Their comment was that they are worn a lot as walking boots.

I guess that's life now. Like our nearly new washing machine [ now made in China and not NZ ] is about to do its bearings in. The old one lasted 30 years and 3 kids, before it got tired. Nothing lasts now days,.

I shall just reserve the right to place my "charitable donations" where I think. I think we are all being charitable buying cheap shit and promoting manufacturers doing same.

Thanks for your comments guys,. It's far too costly to do things the hard way.
Rohan, my sheepskin lined flying boots are still ok [ apart from leaking ] after 40 + years as well. Do your Rossi's have stitched on soles.

Rossi boots seem to do a lot of bad stuff these days. lol I use Daytona boots now, took a lot to wear in but excellent. 99 % waterproof, if you buy the right pair and they are constructed out of leather and other top quality materials.

Thanks Glen. Got a pair [SIDI On Roads ] for the wife. Perfect fit but very hard uppers that need to be relieved for the middle toes.

They don't appear to have shitty polyurethane in the soles.
