Is it true that from 1959 the early Norton's forks were 7" wide, center to center, and were increased in width to 7 3/8" after 1964?

Been in it and was happy to learn exactly the same info from several sources.

In fact I'm wondering about the possibility to put Manx sliders on Commando stanchions. Somebody must have done that before, no?
