I have just looked at a physical sample of the new Emgo chrome headlight brackets for Commandos

Very nice quality metalwork and chrome plating these were also well priced at £32.50 per set including VAT

Any one else seen them yet ????

I have not seen them yet, but I do have some on order, and they have already been despatched. I am expecting a good product, and am happy to hear they look good to you.
My price in Australia will be somewhere in the 65-75 AUD range, plus delivery.

The Andover ones aren't that much more.

Andover ones are about double the price, going by current pricing at Old Britts and the current exchange rate. Get what you pay for? Maybe...

Yes you are correct Andover brackets are £22.00 per bracket plus VAT making them £52.80 per pair

So £20.00 more ( $32.00 USD at current rate )

I don't think it is a case of you get what you pay for and quality costs , more like economies of scale large batch production at reduced cost

take a look at the new EMGO brackets and decide for yourself , The EMGO roadster fuel tanks have certainly generated good feedback from buyers and dealers

It looks as if EMGO are now showing more interest in making Norton parts , investing in new tooling and volume production

This only tells me Dealers are not happy with the current supply chain for Norton parts

All it tells me is that the Emgo ones are a cheaper option, even if they are of a similar quality. As they are made in the Far East it's hardly surprising they can turn them out considerably cheaper than AN.

I hope it isnt a case of bad money drives out good.
Competition is said to drive prices down and quality up
but in today's world it is the former without the latter.

my biggest concern with the Emgo items would be the chrome quality, not saying their chrome is inferior but chrome in the east is often not what it should be, quite some years ago in Australia I made tooling to produce these headlight brackets, the chainguards, centre stands and the later box type head steady, my biggest customer was a very prominent British bike dealer in Brisbane who I found out later was selling my parts in Norton packaging.

I saw this thread this morning and that was my same thought.
The days of good copper, nickel, chrome are all but gone,a lot of the modern chrome looks to be a flashing only, will it endure only time will tell.
Some of the fork leg 'hard chrome can have corrosion without going outside let alone wet weather conditions.

Not double. Very misleading.

The Andover Norton website is saying headlight brackets are £22.00 + VAT per side or US$ 88.87 a pair on today's exchange rate.
Emgo brackets would be US$ 54.70 a pair including VAT as posted here or some 62% less if that price is correct.

You could remove the VAT if the order went outside the EU.
A true believer would post their original brackets back to the UK and have them chromed in the same village the Commando was built in.

UK chrome quality is not what it used to be guy`s

Due to health and safety regulations and designated industrial areas lots of the small UK operations have now closed

the good old days of copper plate then Nickel before chrome are long gone it is all about fast turn around for the UK plater`s who are left standing

place a pair of AN brackets alongside the Emgo chrome and see for yourself ( quality does not have to cost more )

I recently spent a lot of money have most of my chrome redone. It was expensive , but it looked better than new. Work was done by Forlone & Maizey in Hamilton, NZ

Bad day at work, Dave?

Here's how I figured it:

Price quoted by OP = 32.50 GBP = $54.15 USD according the the current exchange rate posted on xe.com
Price at Old Britts for the AN parts is $56.00 EACH, total $112. More than double.

Mind you, that does not include shipping (but does include VAT, which us colonials don't have to pay). Shipping from the UK is expensive and we don't know what price USA dealers will charge for the EMGO parts if and when they start selling them. Could be more than $54. Doubt it would be anything close to $112.

A little off track perhaps, but RGM has stainless steel headlamp brackets, http://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/headlamp ... e_1984.htm , £46.90 plus the VAT, I assume that is for the pair.

With out wanting to hi jack this thread, has any one had a pair of the above?, quality of fit and finish any good?,

John

Yes,

I've got them on both my Commandos and I'm more than happy with them; they're 99% chrome-like, i.e. not so 'nickely'.
They went on no problem - very good quality product. The price is for the pair (or was... )

If anyone this side of the pond wants some EMGO ones, please PM me. Their silencers are good quality, and the chrome holds up fine. I just prefer stainless.

Lady and Gentlemen, be careful what you wish for. I live in a small secluded town that was once excited that Home Depot was coming to town. As I recall one of my neighbors kept going on about how much cheaper kitchen cabinets would be. I asked him how many times in his life he planned to replace his cabinets. Well, we have Home Depot now, and many of the smaller stores we used to enjoy are gone. Some of them made fine cabinets too.

So, go ahead and blast me about the quality of parts from AN and the high cost. I have seen plenty of threads on this topic, but I am also really glad that I can buy parts for my 40-year old bike. How many headlamp brackets are you going to buy in your lifetime? Just my thoughts on it. I suspect we all have some pattern parts on our bikes whether we know it or not. I have some that are deliberate. However, I also have this theory that we need to support the lifestyle we enjoy. Spend your money wisely.
