After doing my rebuild of the engine and welding a broken mounting lug, I decided to reduce the wear generated on the g/box cradle to engine area. The original bolts used had too much thread and this caused a problem. I ended up shimming the holes in both engine and cradle. and using bolts that the shank stuck out so that there was no thread engaging in the holes. Just needed a few extra spacing washers under the nuts.
When I went to fit the primary chain back on, I had to un-adjust it a long way to enable it to fit. Then when I went to fit the rear wheel on, it was really hard because there ended up no slack at all in the rear chain. [ this could be a good plug for Andy"s chains as I had never had to adjust it since fitting it. You only have to un-adjust them HA HA ]
JUst goes to show you there is another area of concern when dealing with handling problems.]

I thought it might be difficult getting the through bolts in because of the shims but it was a breeze with the lifting arrangement I used.
Yeh, when I figure it out I will post some photos

I hate the curve balls Cdos hit me with but love hearing how others handle theirs. I semi tried shim material but the holes were not evenly wallowed out so the sheet mostly snagged > gave up. Older smarter racers said have bored with cradle for 7/16 bolts of correct shaft length which Aircraft Spruce carried. Some the engine flats are too sharp stress risers too.

Hi Steve, it was a mission setting the shims up before putting engine in the frame, but it was worth it. I looked at boring it out for bigger bolts but decided to shim as the wear wasn't so bad. I think these must have been loose form the get go. I must admit, I was concerned that the looseness was designed so it would fit together. I was surprised when it did go together relatively easily by revolving the bolts into place. It had a lot to do with how I balanced the engine on the lifting mechanism. What was really surprising was the amount I had to adjust the drive chains though.
