Over a decade of oil draining methods tried. Peel had the best, oil sight tube to just let down into a jug and put back up. But Trixie is a factory wart Combat to test ones wits and efforts. Being only a little smart but lot more lazy I glanced around to see my lawn mower funnel so taped it on oil tank and only spilled a few drops in interval of opening drain and dropping expedient funnel in place.
Next time around will have a magnet on a stalk and won't lose a drop.

I plan to be changing oil regularly, soon. May I copy that, or is there Patent issues.
But which oil to choose..hmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder if any body would have a suggestion. No probably not.
I think I'll pick one all by myself. Castrol R smells good, Valvaline, Shell,........
I might keep it a secret.
hehehehehe
AC.

Aussie we must be on similar time zones. I was pleasantly surprised how little oil and mostly on my fingers snatching plug out with bottle top lifted before dropping it on oil flow. I didn't even trim the thing, just lucked out so expect to hear your improvements of fitting, fast mounting and how to get the plug out w/o spilling oil before funnel catches it. I was afraid to hold funnel jammed under tank to reach from above to get the plug out as figured as logical as that was the dang plastic and my fumble to spill oil behind the z plate and down. I pictured screwing it out the last bit by a magnet on stalk stuck up the funnel mouth.
Hmm if a cut out made in top and taped on either side, might do it.

I've early day Friday/this am and bugs cloud around my face & to-clog collect everywhere engine opened so talked my self out of messing with Trixie until heat of mid day bug break. Hope I remember to put oil in.

I have a wide mouth funnel with a 5/8" hose on the end. Jammed between the kick lever and oil tank, held in place with tape... funny how we find these little tricks over time.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who makes funnels out of quart oil bottles. Instant recycling!

Nice job hobot. When I copy you, I'll trim it so there's a tongue that extends back under and behind the oil tank drain hole.

The bottles of gasoline additives, with the long thin necks that are small enough diameter to get into the small "unleaded gas only" gas tank inlets make great funnels. I watch for them at gas stations; folks buy the stuff and leave the empty on top of the pump.

Hm, do hope someone adapts something more elegant easy clean than trying to stuff foil and ungainly funnels in infra structure. I was tired and real work was the stud stuck in TS cover and charger to change out, so luck out. Next time will play with extension under and access above so little fast coordination needed as later labor savor. Still nothing beat ole Peels sight and drain tube.

Hobot, but foil is so bloody easy and works great?

I'm quite intrigued by your oil level fitting though. Can you post a bit more in terms of "how to" and pics"? I'd love to follow your lead on that one. Theory is just purely liquids seeking their own levels, no? But execution...ay, there's the rub!

I found a plastic fitting that had a tight in 90' hose barb that screwed in place of the drain plug. This may press on cover to need its bottom rubber bumper removed. I had to notch out rear bottom of cover to pass hose nicely. I made hose long enough I could tuck-jam its top around the filler cap. I vented end of hose so it'd show correct oil level by a plastic hose barb fitting that necked to tiny hose barb I'd stuffed rag grit filter in.
A glance showed both oil level and state of carbonization. To drain, removed seat, un-tucked hose, put in down in mouth of a jug then left to do other stuff. Come back, put hose filter/vent back in, tuck around tank cap, cap off jug, top off oil, put seat on and ready to go. You might have to make your own tank fitting or slicker would be make a new rear drain port that misses the cover closeness.

Always used a piece of cardboard myself, but you have given me an idea. Will try taking a larger bottle, maybe laundry detergent style, cut a flap to fit underneath oil tank, then cut out an access port on the top side so I can reach the drain bolt. Oil will (should) flow down into the drain pan. That, or I do have plenty of cereal boxes............

Top hose end is just wrapped around- tucked down around the tank filer neck with a hose barb with rag stuffed in to filter out grime while allowing tube to vent to show oil level. It did not weep even mist out the end. Other end front of Peels tank had the oil temp sender installed. All trash now as not factory enough for plain Trixie and Peel is OIF now.

Another vote for using a pump. The tube can even get through the primary inspection hole to empty that.
