High temperature surprise

I just moved to Gold Canyon, Az from Washington State and got a big surprise yesterday. The grip glue that I used seemed to melt in the high AZ temperatures and allowed the right grip to slide right off. New glue and a turn of safety wire has fixed it for now. Any recommendations on what to use in the desert heat?

Somebody recently suggested hair spray?

I'd suggest you ask a local motorcycle mechanic what options you have in AZ. It might be worth trying a pale grey grip, which wouldn't absorb heat as much as a black one.

Incidentally,we've got hazy blue skies (due to smoke from BC forest fires), bright sunshine getting through, and the temperature at 15:00 is just approaching 75F!

I've been using hairspray since...well...let's just say Norton was still making Commandos then... Works great and it's the only thing I have used for many, MANY years.

Have you any experience with hairspray in multiple days of 110 degrees? If so, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I tried hairspray recently and it didn't work at all!

Is there a specific type of product, or technique to making it work?

I just use gasoline. Works for both getting them on and off.

3M auto weatherstrip adhesive applied exactly per the package instructions and let dry/cure thoroughly.

I apply them then tape across with plenty of overlap, using low-tac painters masking tape for a full day at least.

First off, thank you all for your input. Great bit of adhesive diversity. I've got new grips on order and I will try the 3m approach. I noticed that you're from Texas so you have the experience within the temperatures ranges that I will be experiencing. I mentioned the hairspray suggestion to my wife and she reminded me that I used hairspray and a bunch of other approaches for years on all of our BMX racing bicycles. On the bikes I've used hairspray, WD 40, golf grip tape, starting fluid, grip glue, and carb cleaner. The carb cleaner worked the best.
I found an unopened tube of 3m in my adhesive collection left over from installing weather stripping on the 66 Bug. It's an actual grip glue that has failed this time around so the 3m product will now have it's day in court. Two years of faithful service in Washington State, 5 minutes here in AZ.
