I was just interested to see how many miles some of the folks on the forum put on their Nortons per season. I bought my 74 850 with 5400 original miles on it in January and since then I have personally added an additional 1200 miles since then. I would consider this extremely low miles for a bike that is almost 40 years old. How about you guys/gals? Any good stories about some adventures would also be fun.

I bought mine with 4000 in 72. Put it away in about 78 or so with 13K on it. It now has about 14K. I'm figuring about 500/yr now. Don't ask ludwig.

about 1500 or so miles a year

I have a new Triumph Bonneville that needs attention!

plus I am old and achy breaky

Since I recovered 4 x's in a row Trixie Combat I've had spells over a year now of daily commutes 40 to 120 m a day and been to Texas for almost 1000 miles in a weekend. Equates to couple 1000+ a month at peaks. In '03-'04 on Ms Peel a modified Combat I basically lived on her day and night for 4 seasons and had over 4000 mile months in a row which made me tire consciou$. Deer since increased too dramatically to go off too far its dark by return. More than the cycle's endurance it the pilots to take the wind the wet the cold the heat the grit the bugs the posture and so forth. I get so comfy on a good Commando I don't want to get off or shut down.

I have just shy of 42000 on the guage. I recently have the guage serviced at Nisongers and had the option to put the odometer where ever I wanted but stayed true blue and left it as is. I can't say if this bike/frame/crank has 42000 on it, after al, it is a complete bitza, but it does average out too about 1000 mile a year. Not too bad and respectable.

I have owned my Norton 850 since new 76 and has been a ever day ride in my younger days has had 3 rebuilds since, 2 rebuilds for complete motor and the 3rd rebuild to replace crank cases my Norton gets ridden 6 days out of 7 these days, my Norton has done over 120,000 miles, it was off the road for a few years when my crank cases had hair line cracks around the engine seal , but has been back on the road for 18 months now and have clocked up 12,000 miles so far and is ridden hard and on the highway it cruises on 70-75 mph with a few high speed runs in between, and I run standard gearing, but the motor has some tricks done inside the motor as well lives in a Wideline Featherbed frame.

Mine has done 5,200 miles since I owned it Sept 2011, it came with 16,850 miles genuine on it.
I ride mostly around the North Island of New Zealand, attended the NOC rally in January and numerous 180 to 250 miles rides in a day with other bikes and just recently a track day.
. Not bad considering I am away from home four 4 to 5 weeks at a time for work, then home for 4 weeks at a time on my off swing. This winter will slow up a bit , start bigger trips on the warmer days. it likes the longer miles !!!!
Regards Mike

I go thru about 3 K81's in the rear each season. I don't like to ride below 58 degrees or above 94 but when I do ride, and that's about 4 times a week, it is usually a 2 to 4 hr ride.
It's a '74 with 36k on the clock.

Almost three years since I finished restoring my bike and added about 6,500 miles so about 3,200 per year.
Some down time including new pistons/rings to figure out I had a split intake valve seal installed when head rebuilt.
I ride all year down to about 40 degrees but avoid rain and dark.
Only oil drip is one per ride from kickstart shaft and will put in lipped seal this summer.

About 3500 - 4000 a year now its reliable  32,000 since May 98. Oh and 18 months off 2010/11. Back riding now.

That is what I'm talking about, when I bought my bike a few months ago I was a bit skeptical because of the low milage. I think I would rather see at leased 20k on a bike for it being nearly 40 years old. However, it has been one amazing bike thus far and probably one of the better investments I have made in the 30 years I have been on this planet. By the end of the season I hope to add another 3k...can't wait!
