Hidden batteries

Where does everyone hide the battery on their Tritons? I keep seeing pics with central alloy oil tanks and no battery in sight. And no sign of the old hide it behind the gearbox below the swingarm pivot trick, which I can't use anyway because my Triton has a Harley engine in it taking up every cubic millimetre of space.
What batteries will fit in the Manx seat hump? And do they work on old electrics? Mine has a 12 volt generator but will fit a modern solid state regulator to it so output should be well controlled. But they don't produce a lot of output at low rpm or idle so not sure if a tiny Li Ion battery etc would work on these old bangers for long.

There's a very small sealed Yuasa battery in the seat hump. It's powered the bike for 10 years and still going. It was for a Suzuki ATV. Sorry I can't access the battery details at the moment but I'll try and find out.

Thanks Mark. Sounds like that would be an AGM or gel battery then, not Li Ion, which might stand up to old generator charging better. 10 years! Can't beat Yuasa that's for sure. Expensive but always good.

No, definitely not Li-ion.
It's a lead acid sealed battery.
It cost £75.00 when new back in 2012.
I'll find out tomorrow hopefully.
I ran it behind the gearbox for years but it's now in the seat hump which is way easier to get to.

Wow that is expensive for so small, but worth it if it lasts 10 years.
Yes I have been looking at behind the gearbox but it sure looks like a pain to access, and the HD motor means battery would be sticking out under the swingarm pivot right in the gravel zone at the end of the mudguard. Seat hump would be nicer all round if it can b e made to work.

If youve got a magneto , what is a battery for ?

Alternator direct to headlamp will cut through mist like a steam train headlight , at 90 .

If you overev it , wind it up to quick , in a hurry , it can POP the bulb . but this is the exception .
A little cutoff exceesss current wottsit'd help . A weeny bettery for M.o.t. if compulsary .

Commando with 2MC & no bettery can be a pig , But theres any number of 12 v ni cads or whatever , matchbox size .

Some twits put batteries in the seat hump . or oil tanks.

Hey thanks much for that. Much appreciated. Gives me a good idea on how to mount the battery box too. Much tidier than my current Sportster full sized battery carrier hanging out in the wind above the clutch housing. Looks ok on a Sportster, but excess baggage on a Featherbed.
