Bike has 20,000 miles, swinging arm never lubricated and sense needs new bushings. Can this be done without removing primary chain casing. Any helps appreciated.
Thanks.
Ron in Sudbury Ontario Canada

Yes, it can be serviced without removing the primary. On assembly, it's a hassle to hold the inside end cap in place, while you thread the rod into it, but not too bad. If you don't have that type, I would switch to it and thus use the longer bushings too. I would also recommend soaking your new bushings in oil at least a day or two. (I have some soaking right now) I've read the bronze bushings work even better then. Cheers.

Thanks that is comforting.
As you appear to have done this at least once, do yo have a step by step to gain the needed access to enable removal of the swinging arm for inspection, cleaning, replacement of bushings, etc.
Ron.

Im at this point with mine and you might check to see if
the play is in the bushes or in the cradle. Might also
send to Windy for a set of collars, I have.

Hi,
I have just replaced a set this weekend on a 750 Commando.
No need to disturb the Primary drive. I took the back wheel out and rear mudguard for easy access to the spindle lock bolt, and bottom shock bolts removed to swing shocks out of the way.
You will need a 1/2" UNF threaded bolt and nut + a socket to go over the spindle & wind it in to start the extraction of the pin.(the front engine ISO bolt is of the correct thread type).
On the 750 when replacing the end caps & long thin bolt a very usefull tip is to pass this thin bolt through some suitable size tube to enable you to align the thin bolt in end cap. (I ended up using some rubber petrol hose ).
Good luck.
Hursty.
