hi all

I posted a thread awhile back about intermittent headlights, now they are just out,and the horn, I have had the tank off checked the fuses near the battery as suggested earlier, pulled the control switch apart, looks to be ok and checked the relays going by the manual, I just swapped them around in case one was dead but still the same, the brake lights and indicators still work, from my limited electrical diagram reading skills I think horn and headlight are on same circuit, any help would be appreciated.

While you were in the grey fuse box did you check the fuses ? There is a 10A fuse in there that feeds horn and other things . labeled WO to WY in the diagram. Even if the fuse looks good it must be replaced it could have a hairline crack .

Update , WG to WG fuse in post 2013 961 bikes feeds both horn and lights . Also this fuse is fed by crank time lights off relay . The crank time lights off relay gets power from ignition switch. So while bike is cranking , no horn and no lights.

Replaced the fuses and still no luck I removed the whole fuse / relay unit as I felt a loose plug below but it didn't clip into anything not sure if I may be left over from the old ecu when they changed it but comes off the main harness and has around 6 wires all at one end, looks like it may have to be a visit to the auto electrician unfortunately.

What year is your Bike ? I want to make sure I am using the correct drawing. Do you have access to a multimeter or a voltage tester with probe tips ? you will have to check for voltage present at certain test points. I will get you those points when you tell me year of bike.

Thanks Tony I'll be able to get a test light my bike is 2015 I'm heading on holidays to 2 weeks tomorrow but so it prob won't be until I get back but definitely post if you have advice I have 5 days when I return before work again and would like to try and sort it

First make sure your test light works, by checking with the battery . It would be best to take off Seat , Head lamp glass , and Fuel tank to access all points. Pull the fuse box cover and remove the WG to WG fuse , turn on the ignition key switch and check for 12 v both points of the fuse socket. With the key on you should have 12v at one side of the fuse socket. When you turn on the key both horn and lights should work. IF there is no power at this point with the key on , then you will find the CRANK TIME LIGHTS OFF RELAY . This may be under the fuel tank by coil bracket (not sure). The WG wire comes from here (white /green). When the starter button is pressed this relay switches off power to headlamp. On the CRANK TIME LIGHTS OFF RELAY , WG (white/green) pin 4 is fed from WO (white/orange) pin 3 . The WO power comes from the fuse box again so while you are there check for 12v at the WO point by pulling out fuses and check with tester . WO (white /orange) feeds both ECU Clocks (WO to WY) and the brake light /ind (WO to WP) circuits. This WO power comes form the key switch this power should be there if your bike starts etc.. Start here and let us know how you fare. Be sure you check the connections at the back of the fuse box as well . When you solve the problem , make sure you zip tie the connectors around top of fuse box to hold plugs and top securely . I use 3 zip ties. This is after you put in high density foam to hoId down relays AND fuses. I will find a picture to include. , This is from Richard Pearce's bike. Use the service manual if you don't have the fuse labeling . If the WG wire is passing the 12v WITH FUSE IN , the problem may lead to the handle bar switch cluster. Look for the WG wire and check for 12 v in the switch cluster.

Check the left hand switch gear and the connections in the headlight bucket.
Mine was playing up not switching from low to high beam.
Found some corrosion on the contacts.
cheers

Hi Tony A

Thanks for the detailed response it looks like the culprit was the relay under the tank but never would have got there without those instructions, it was a bit of luck paid a part too when I checked that relay I had power to the pin but when the wire was on nothing I pulled it off and back in then the lights came on, repeated the process to make sure but nothing, thought it must be the wire broken so bared it and same thing no lights and horn, swapped the relay with the fuel one next to it which is the same and everything works, so got there in the end, I'll get a new relay tomorrow hopefully, they're a pretty standard item I think. Thanks again I usually baulk at anything electrical.

Cheers
