Hi

I was looking at my project & wondered if anyone here has already designed or made an oil tank using the z plate mounting holes?
I am not using z plates & was looking at the area between the frame tubes above the swinging arm. It appears as if a good size oil tank could be fitted there.

Thoughts?

Thank Chris

My thoughts are it would make room for long intakes for the carbs like the racebikes have. Wondering if street rode bikes respond well to long intakes.

Carol Smith has a good book "Prepare To Win" on proper fabrication of aluminum tanks and brackets.

On this bike, the oil tank is in the tail section, it was made out of fiberglass and I had a small oil cooler (from a 2CV) mounted up front. The tank held about 4 liters and never got really hot.

Here is the one on my Commando

On my café racer, the oil tank is part of the swing arm, it holds about two liters

Many others have made their own oil tanks, mainly for looks, more capacity or to make them dissapear. Many times, the oil tank is incorporated in the gas tank.

Hi

Thanks some lovely ideas Jean. Remember the f/bed & the Commando but 2ltrs in the swinging arm!!!!!
Seeley Weslake. Closer to what I am after. The space above the swinging arm looks like it will hald about 7 pints. I will have to mock one out of cardboard.

Keep the ideas coming please.

Thanks Chris
