Well its finaly is going to happen the Australian GOVT is going to charge us 10% tax on every thing we get from overseas for our Nortons and every thing else, we have had it to good for to long they recond, before, anything under a $1000 was GST free and another thing that is hitting us hard now is our Aussie $$$ is now only worth 70c to the US $$$ and is expected to drop even lower, the cost that we pay for shipping to Australia is so high because we are so far away, we already pay high taxes here and now its going to hit us even harder.
I am so glad that I got all my improvements and parts from overseas when the Aussie $$$ was high and even with the US $$$ but in the last 2 years with this GOVT. things are just getting harder and now they want to put the GST on everything up to 15% from 10%, when will it all stop.

Purchase an oil, mining, tobacco, pharmacetical, etc company and these petty gripes will simply go away... :D Next time, take a ball point pen when you go to the polling booth :D Like you, I purchased parts when the AUD was strong so 'I'm alright too, Jack'. :D When will it end? When the maddog ideologues are gone? You think? :D
Politics, religion and sport are front bar of the pub subjects in any country unless this is a call to action to have Norton Commando imported parts exempt from import duties.
Ta.

Well, it will help protect our manufacturing industry and our retail sector. Do our retailers pay GST when importing items for resale ? And how many Norton Parts do we make in Australia ? It is just like import duty for tariff protection purposes. And in any case to the Liberal Party, motorcyclists are just bums and should be treated accordingly.

Here in Canada .... it's 15% on imports which is our regular HST ( Harmonized Sales Tax ) which is on just about everything ... when postie comes with imported package he has to charge you $5.00 for an Admin. fee on top of HST ... so ... hey we get free Medicare right !

It will be up to Les to move this subject to the right place, I through I put it here as it will affect all our Aussie Norton owners whether it's a Commando or any other British bike and of course our local British bike shops are going to put all their prices up, they are already charging high prices for what we can get at less than 1/2 price from overseas and the greedy retailers are just going to get richer, they just keep taking more off us and giving us less in return.

Dang, i hope NZ (unzud for the west islanders :D ) doesn't follow suit, our retailers are pushing hard for the same.
We currently only have a $400 tax free limit (incl shipping costs) but if you get hit for GST (15%) they also add another $60ish flat fee to cover the various civil servants at the border. That would be a killer on low value items.

It proberly will what happens here nomaly follows over to your side and visa versa, once our greedy pollies and retailers get together then all hell will happen, as for our tax free limit ($1,000 at the moment) they are planning 0 tax free limit and GST on top of that, no wonder this great country of ours is in so much of a mess and its only going to get worst, but the part that gets me it wasn't nomal joe blow that got us into this mess.

It's just the same in the UK mate , ripped off from the cradle to the grave.
One thing we got though is our bikes to keep us sane, how do the wierdos without bikes cope ?
sam

Yer its happening every where, over here if we buy a new bike or car it is taxed at 50% so if you can buy a new bike say in the US for $8,000 we pay $15,000 here, so we get taxed way to much for our enjoyment, pollies don't want us to have fun and now they want eveyone to work longer, they want you to work till you drop, so they can get their hands on your retirement money, you can't win which ever way you go.

Wealth redistribution used to mean rich to govt to poor. Now it means everyone to govt and sometimes to corporate.

Just be thankful you live in the greatest country in the world and pay your taxes. :)

As more and more liberal governments decide that wealth redistribution is good we end up with more and more people dependent on the government tit with little incentive to actually work.

As Maggie Thatcher famously put it, the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

You can't tax your way to prosperity but the message just doesn't get through. In the 'states the democrats must feed their constituency and keep them on the tit.

Ha ha. That is so funny. The original poster is complaining about a 'Liberal' government (note capital L). In this part of the world that means right wing ideology i.e. Thatcher, Freidman, Chicago School of Economics, etc. The Liberals are the ones implementing this tax to ensure those that can least afford to live are not entitled.

There is ancient plot to exterminate the planets people and is crazy making to track this down and even more crazy making once ya have. Trickle down effects seen in monetary policy to traffic regulations. Its not hydrocephaly birth defects nor traditional head shaping nor E.T.s nor TV spoofs... just crazy making to bitter end.

Interesting. In the states the liberals are the tax and spend types while those on the right are for less government and fewer taxes - keep what you earn.

Alas the political world is what we have to rider through -while- still can. Taxes and money policy is crazy making. Any-One getting into position to influence whole populations must be in bed with other evil movers/shakers or they would be eliminated as interfering with the gravy train by working for benefit of the people. The word -read- means to guess, which is one reason we bicker so much - as ofte we have to guess at what someone else means by some words. Fine if discussing a movie or what foods should taste like but its crazy making when guessing about words govt and corporate and occult agents use. Arkansas native hicks know to ask what the definition of -is- is, to get off scott free by not having sex with that woman. Liberal word/term, first meant to be free of some despotic power and motto of American Revolution, to settle once and for all w/o constant waring drag downs to follow fair laws on property rights and earning -aka- No Tax W/O Representation. Alas even Am. Rev. is questionable on who won - when knowing the Kings troops were stationed in the -freed- states a few years after the shooting stopped and by very clear language in Treaty of Peace that supposedly settled in new Americans favor but it fact gives ongoing tax authority to the City of London banksters Crown the King/Queen they prop up. Since then the work Liberal in politics means freely changing laws that were once supposedly set in conservative stone to protect people over govt and the INC.s that prop them up. These opposed word terms are part of the Hegelian-Fabian-Metaphysical-Theosophical Monopoly game, > create a problem by 3rd hidden party - to create two sides then let them beat each other up till a new synthesis forced on us towards One Word Govt w/o many people left to bother it.

Btw people with some decent assets know not to own things in their name but held in private Non Liar/Lawyer Non Statutory Trusts so no inheritance tax just change in trustees with beneficiaries getting their due regardless and not noticed by the govt any more than change of company president.

Hey Bub ( Acadian ) :D ... I live in most heavily taxed Province in Canada ... I know Medicare isn't free ... it's not cheap either ... in my life rich get richer poor are worse off ... only one down here on Gov. tit is big business ... rest of us are hunting , fishing and growing our own food ...
Craig

When the GOVT first inerduced GST fresh food was exemped from GST, cooked food wasn't (takeaways, resterunts, cafes etc) but they want to now include freash foods as well, they are blaming the cost of Medicare for the changes we already pay a seperate tax from our weekly pay packets for Medicare, they want everyone to take out private health care insurance but the price of insurance goes up every year and is becoming out of reach for the poor or families to afford and a lot of poeple are going back to the public system, with house prices so high, full time work is getting harder to fine and our beloved Treasure saying if we want to afford to buy a house in Australia we need to get a well paying job and this is when he is sitting back puffing on his Cuban cigars, I could just keep going, better still I just might jump on the bike and go for a ride, but then they tax the shit out of our fuel prices (fuel taxed at 35% or more on a litre and 10% GST on top of that, so its double taxed) can't win.

Ashley

Yup ... a ride is best for calming .... our gas is taxed flat rate by province then Feds then 15% HST on top of that ... today high test retail price $1.21 per litre or $5.45 imp. gallon ... I can put $12 in Norton no problem and $25 in the Duc ....
