Green dot Speedo: 190 km h max!

A dear friend has this speedo 190 km/h max.
I have never seen a Commando with a green dot 190 km / h speed max!
May be was fitted on the very early Commando or on the last Atlas?
Ciao

I think that if you want to use that speedo on a Commando , you will also have to change the gearbox on the rear wheel
( diff. ratio ).

Why?

Re: Gree dot Speedo: 190 km h max!

Thats the equivalent of the old 120 mph speedos.
Not the 150 of the Commando ones.

That 1000 down the bottom on the speedo is important.
Thats the no of turns it does/needs for a mile ??

Interesting.....

What years(s) of N15/P11 got these.
It would only be the very last of them ?
Or replacement speeds for them, perhaps...

As it's Km/h speedo, it's 1000 (cable) turns per kilometre, therefore requires a 2:1 ratio drive gearbox.

Apparently, according to the Smiths list this type, was fitted (in both MPH and Km/h forms) to non-Commando twins (inc. Mercury) manufactured during the '68-'69 period (green blob era).

Re: Gree dot Speedo: 190 km h max!

Is it the same 2/1ratio with the Veglia KPH Clock?

No, all Commando speedos (MPH and Km/h) use 1.25:1 (15/12) drive ratio.

If you want it to read accurately in kph, then fit the 2:1 gearbox at the wheel.

With the original existing 1.25:1 gearbox, the readings will be in mph. When it shows 100 kph, you'll be doing 100 mph. If it showed 190, you'd be doing 190 mph.

Cheers for that x-file, I guess your still running a high temperature don't get your C's mixed up with your F's on the thermometer you might spontaneously combust!

I hope you've got this clear, auldblue. You seem to have misquoted me, changing my post in what you quoted.

If you leave the existing 1.25:1 speedo gearbox, it will be fine if you want readings in mph.
The speedo will be showing 100kph, when you are doing 100mph.

The odometer reading would be wrong, however.

It will be right enough, once you tell yourself it's miles and not kilometres.

Sorry X-File , just joshing. This is the speedo and I recon it needs a 1.25 speedo drive for a reading accurate or not.
Green dot Speedo: 190 km h max!
