Put the greasegun to my speedo drive unit nipple , a couple pumps then went to pull off of nipple , no go , then a snap and remains left stuck in gun tip. So 2 problems , can't get remains (nut and ball end) out of pump tip and of course the speedo drive bust off flush. Sheeze. :x

That's a bummer, but you must not have had a stock grease nipple. Mine is original and is tapered so that a grease gun cannot stick on it.
It's actually hard to get grease in without the gun blowing off. I made a special adapter for my gun. I think a lot of owners replace the stock nipple with a standard bulbed type.

It's usually a hydraulic lock that causes the grease gun to lock on, perhaps the ball in the nipple has jammed. On some grease guns there is a bleed valve to release the pressure. If your's has the valve open it or just screw the grease gun valve thingy off, the bit the nipple is stuck in ( strewth, can't remember what you call the bloody thing) :? and flick the nipple out.

I've mentioned this before .. an oooooold tip from way back .. The stock grease nipples work fine if you use a shop rag over them before fitting the modern-type grease gun nozzle. The grease will flow easily through the rag into the fitting but won't leak out the sides. It works. Somewhere around I do have a small proper British grease gun but it is easier to just find a rag.

It won't snap off the fitting either. Have you tried using two picks or awls to dig out the broken off fitting? Also the threaded part may come out of the speed drive with an easy-out.

Problem #1 solved. Took apart (unscrewed) grease gun tip to find a ball and spring sitting in a strong rubber cup insert . Those fell out , Then small screwdriver to work loose the rubber cup-seal and then the nipple with nut just fell out. The photos posted tell me this is an aftermarket (India) MK 111 speedo-drive gearbox. Since it is now well greased up I will drive to the end of season then bring the bike indoors to explore options for removing any remaining thread bits and fit a new nipple and nut of some sort . :?

The remains already have a hole drilled through the center, making your job just that much easier. Procure a left-hand twist bit that is slightly larger than the hole (but no bigger than the thread's minor diameter, for obvious reasons), kick your drill into reverse, and I'd lay odds that the offending piece pops right out. Don't pussyfoot around it, as the action you're looking for is the typical one where the bit gives a healthy grab at the instant it exits the backside. It's usually at this point where the broken bit will then spin right out of the threaded hole.

Thanks , that makes sense to buy an easy -out that will grab in the hole and spin out those remaining threads. I have a couple of pooched genuine drive units in a bag somewhere , should I try to remove the genuine grease fitting from one of those and replace with the British type , ( if the threads be the same ), or locate a ball end type fitting again ? :?

I stop using a grease gun ages ago on my speedo drive, as part of my maitenance when I have the rear wheel off for tyre change or servicing the wheel bearings I also degrease my speedo drive (it don't take long to remove the drive from the bike), give it a good clean then replace it with grease and work it into the drive while spinning it by hand, using grease guns you can over do it with the grease, I am still running my orginal speedo drive after 40 years and a lot of miles, to much grease in your speedo drive will cause other problems and it don't need greasing all that much anyway.
You will find that the orginal grease nipple is imperal size and if you have a newer grease gun they will be metric fittings, my grease gun can be ajusted to fit both sizes.
