Hi Guys, i am looking to purchase a new set of exhaust pipes for my 69 mk1 fastback [low leval] and after the poor experiance with pipes i brought from RGM for my 650SS i am weary about ordering from an English supplier, can anybody recomend a supplier? I am considering Armours but as yet I have not delt with them and as I am half the world away it is not practical to return poor quality items.
Thanks Al

Find someone with a mandle bender and make them to fit the bike I got mine made up 32 years ago and they are still going great, if you get them made get them chromed before you use them, mine are tucked right into the frame and have no troubles with scrapping them.

The trouble with finding someone with a mandrel bender is if they don't know exactly what they are doing, and do a bend with a bad curve in it, having gone that far and done all that work you may feel obliged to go with them even though the pipes look cr*p....

If you can convey that you won't pay unless they are perfect, then maybe.
Local Harley shop may be able to recommend someone here, they generally know who is worth going to.

Finding someone to do good pipe chroming these days isn't trivial either. ?

If you find someone with a mandle bender they should know how to use it, but you could make up some mock pipes before you bend them the same way, my Harley pipes where done that way. but my Norton pipes were done by eye and bent them in just over a 1/2 hour, but the operator knew what he was doing.

Gee , They Havnt made Quality pipes since the FIFTIES . :P

Theres been fastbacks on Ebay with factory pipes . they might fit .

Getting Them rechromed . IF THEYRE SOLID .

HS Whites in Akland for pipe bends , and make some . seen the joins on some of these modern things . :o A bit of an art , but practical .

O.E.M. would be best .

You can buy mandrel benders offa ebay - does that mean you automatically can do perfect bends, without years of practice. ?? Think be wise to ask to see some examples first.

This is starting to sound like a lot of work ?!
(How do you make up mock pipes ??).
This would ensure that what you ended up with was exactly what you wanted though...

Of course, having the old pipes as a sample would be ideal.
Just don't let them out of your sight....

Thanks guys, Viking don't list Early fastback pipes on their website, British Spares are now in Nelson/Motuaka and am a regular customer- they don't carry early fastback pipes either.

Give Paul at Viking a call. If you can get you hands on a sample/with mounting hardware, he can probably make a set. Basically, everything he makes is a one off. I got a set of his Roadster pipes that are better than any I've seen. Great chrome, heavy gauge tubing, and they actually fit.

What are the pipes British Spares list for a low level 1968 Commando ?

"Exhaust Header Set for low level mufflers
Fits 1968 Commando models with low level late Dominator/Atlas style mufflers ".

Or do they list them and not carry them....

I Checked with British Spares today and they do not have stock and do not expect any in the near future.

hi looks like your in nz you have one of the vary best pipe manufactures right on you door step viking exhaust they are by fare the best i have used iron john

I bought a set of headers for my '69 fastback from Viking and they fit really well.

After about 100 miles the right header broke near the head. The weld just cracked all the way around.

Viking replaced the header, quickly, and it fit perfectly and is doing well.
