Hi readers, have question, I have gutted a set of pea shooter exhausts on one of my race bikes (big brit twin but not Norton) but it is way to loud for the class, can any reader suggest a modification that does not flatten the performance, happy to cut the reverse cone and weld on an end cap or cut and lightly pack a baffle and re weld the reverse cone. what ever is the best solution.
tks

What I did in my misguided youth was to stuff some fiberglass batting in there and affix a screen over the hole to hold it all in. Have to be creative in attaching the screen 'cause the batting would need replacement occasionally.

100Db, good luck. I struggle to get below 105Db with a two into one, I have a Supertrapp stack that I bolt on to the end if it fails, only brings it down by a couple of Db though.

I think even stock pea shooters might be over 100db cw the perf tube and wadding!

Fit a short baffle in ends made from steel perforated tubing? My street Toga style pipes came with these decibel cutter baffles, to be optionally installed by owner. Adding holes or trimming length gives adjustability

Back in the late '80s I raced a couple of Nortons in the AMA Battle of the Twins/Pro-Twins classes with open reverse-cone megaphone exhausts, and was just barely able to pass the 102 dB sound tech requirement. That was measured at 20" (I think) from the outlet at one half red-line rpm. It helped a lot that the AMA sound tech guy liked Nortons, and was willing to not look too closely at the test results:).

If I were in your position, I would fit a weld-on Supertrapp end in place of the reverse cone. I've had that sort of exhaust system on several race bikes, and it does let you add or subtract disks to meet sound requirements. Steve Maney used to sell a kit to fit them to his 2-into-1 exhaust system. The individual disks and adapters are available from Supertrapp, as well as from many other suppliers on-line.

Hi Ken tks again
By any chance have you a Steve Maney super trap kit for the 2into 1 or details there of.
Will run into issues with the RNN as well I am sure

Many years ago I saw Supertraps on a Triumph race bike. You would still have to lose a bit off the top - varying the valve timing to get more torque and use higher gearing, would probably make more noise. If you find a good answer you would be ground-breaking. In the old days, some of the top guys had quiet bikes, but I think they made up for the loss of power with better riding.

Haha will I fit the old category but always raced loud bikes, a screaming CB350 twin at 13K is about as noisy as it comes :-/

Contact Peter at meerkatmufflers.com.au his phone number is 07 54827553 he make custom exhaust systems, mufflers and baffles for motorcycles, he is up at Gympie or just google meerkat mufflers and his web site comes up, he does a great job at a great price and is a very honest tradesperson, he done the x pipe and opened up my stock mufflers for my 1200 Triumph Thruxton.

If you are using a 2 into 1 exhaust, some form of Exup might be an answer. Top end power has never been a problem with large 4 cylinder bikes. To get it you add a hotter cam which fattens-up the whole rev range except the very bottom. Anything which stifles the exhaust probably cuts more off the top of the rev range than elsewhere. So you effectively fatten-up the middle and work with that by changing the overall gearing. You'd need a three cable twist grip to operate the butterfly valve in the exhaust.

If I started my Seeley 850 at home, my neighbours would be justified in calling the police.

Unfortunately, I don't have much more info on them. This was a long time back. Steve was buying the disks in quantity directly from Supertrapp, but they were quoting really high prices to ship to him, so he asked me if he could have them sent to me, and I could then ship them to him. I had been supplying him with JE pistons for many years by then, and he had noted that my shipping costs were much less than Supertrapp wanted. I shipped two or three large boxes of parts from Supertrapp to him over a several year period. But I don't recall the exact contents, except for multiple packs of the diffuser disks, and I don't recall what was on the invoices that came with them. I never did see a picture of how he fitted them to his silencers. I don't recall ever seeing them listed on his web site. I think he just supplied them to his existing customers as needed. He may have made the end cap to hold them himself, and just used the diffuser disk, base, and cover from Supertrapp. If I recall correctly, he used the 3" disks, not the 4" or 5" ones, but I can't be positive.

Tks Ken, I will see if I can contact Steve again and see if he will share detail. Last comms a few months back he was living the good life in another continent :)

Yeah same there been done a few times, 30years back was no issues wraking round the neighborhood testing ya latest mod. That was back in sleepy NZ now in PC Perth CBD you wheel ya bike out of the garage you get dobbed in and can be sure to get an official enveloper in the letter box the following week ..

Can you point me to some pictures of your beautiful Seeley.

Also who do you recommend to re work my fork internals in AU better still Perth, Have fitted emulator valves and done damper tube mod by drilling the M6 holes in the lower damper tube as recommended in the emulator fitting instructions, even with 15w oil the rebound is all but gone.

Steve made his own alloy replacement for the reverse cone outlet that then acted as a flange for the Supertrap discs to bolt onto.
Your best bet would be to buy Supertrap discs and end plates (perhaps one with a hole and one without to experiment) and get a new alloy end cone / flange made up locally.
