Has the Matchless gearbox mainshaft the same Commando's lenght?
As far as i know is the Atlas mainshaft shorter than Commando one?
Thanks.
Piero

The Commando mainshaft has a different arrangement for the clutch attachment Piero,
so it is quite different to Altas/P11/Matchless mainshafts.

I *think* the preCommando ones for the 750's are all the same, but a comparison of part numbers may be required to say for sure.
Unless someone has some out to compare.

Yes, as Rohan says, the Commando shaft is longer to accommodate the diaphragm clutch.

And all Matchless (singles and twins) use the same mainshaft (040001) as Atlas/Dominator/G15/P11.

The TTI gearbox I bought has the longer mainshaft to suit the diaphragm clutch. So I made a splined carrier to fit JAWA speedway sprockets which float enough to maintain chain alignment. I use single row chain and the early Manx type racing clutch. If you want to fit belt drive to the early dominator/atlas and still use the longer mainshaft, I think you would have difficulties getting alignment unless you use the diaphragm clutch. If you don't want to change the mainshaft yet keep chain drive, you would need to fit all of the commando type primary drive - triple row sprockets and chain.
The difference in the mainshafts is only about 6mm, however it can be a difficulty..

The clutch can be retrofitted, but you will need to make a spacer and different clutch location circlip. Apparently it was mod that was often done by the speedway boys.
