Finally got around to inspecting my gears (pinions). All but one are pitted to varying degrees. Andover has them individually, but does anyone sell complete sets at a reduced cost?

Thanks.

I don't think there is any complete cluster set with shafts available new for under $1000, good second hand sets come up on US eBay now and again.
Any complete set that seems to reasonable is probably made from recycled Reliant Robin hub caps so buyer beware..... The pirate gear thing springs to mind if it is true.

I read on FarceBook (or somewhere) that the US dude who is going to make the Norton heads is working on a gearbox set so that might be a future option.

How badly pitted are they?
I've seen a few that looked bad but function well
There are people on this site that deal with a lot more gearbox stuff than I ever will
Maybe put some photos up for scrutiny before committing
Cheers

you are correct, it is john at STS who does the E start for CNW and bought out fullauto. i talked to stan keys at nortona and he is testing one of his gear sets right now.

Thanks Bill... I had (rudely) forgotten John's name but will keep an eye out for progress on that cluster set.
I would imagine it will be a higher quality and finish over anything currently available.

For a economical rebuild, there is no real problem using good used gears if they are installed as a matching pair/set, it could be 1st through to 4th out of four bikes.

put a second pair in it along with what bushings are needed, my guess is 1st lay will need one and look closely at the kick start pawl and run it.

Thanks Bill. Much appreciated. I have an order pending at AN. The pawl shows wear and will be replaced. Will take a closer look and will likely put in 1st pair as well.

This started as the install of the Andover Norton gearbox bearing/bushing/spring kit.

Thank you.
