I can't get a hold of the required SAE90 gear oil here in Canada but a local supplier has Castrol EP90 (extreme pressure) available, which is primarily used for outboard motors. According to the label it can be used as a replacement for SAE90. Does anyone have experience with this oil? Can I use it in a Norton as a substitute for the SAE90 gearbox oil. You advice is appreciated.

I wouldn't get too hung up on finding Castrol products. But I have run their EP90 in my outboards. I have a 1987 55-horse Johnson that is still going strong with that in the gearbox right now. Of course I ignore that motor cuz it seems to like that, so I dunno what that proves. If in doubt, check the temp rating and make sure it is high enough for aircooled applications. I would think it is, but it is easy to check it.
