Gasket Dope on Banjo Fittings?

I just purchased one of the Venhill stainless rocker oil feed sets to replace the 20 year old plastic oil lines. The old lines look fine but some say they get old and hard and might fail in service.

Will the kit washers seal reliably on their own or is judicious use of some sort of gasket dope a good idea?

Who knows, may for a while and then may not. I tried annealing copper washers to beyond bright orange and still got weeps, tried tightening till banjo sheared off but easy to extract and try special order Al washers which did work, for a while but now use a light dabbling of Hylomar or similar for oil tight w/o fracture tight. Watch the routing of the hack saw like SS braid hose.

Fred from Old Brits says to use the aluminum ones. I had the same thing happen that Hobot did & I followed the torque specs. Now I use the alloy washers with just a micro film of Permatex grey sealer and not a leak of any kind. Did you get alloy washers or the old copper kind. They will still work, just use goop so you don't have to overtighten them & risk breakage or stripping.

I have used GASGACINCH since the 1960s and was lured away from it by some of these plasticy new sealers some years ago. Now I have gone back to the old standard and find it easier to use and less messy. I may just try a whisper of Old Faithful on the surfaces. Besides, the girl on the can & I have been friends for a lot of years . . .

There are six, count'em, six CU washers and two AL washers and no instructions . . .

Go to the old Brits web site and it will tell you where the go, I will look & see if I have his instructions but I think they go directly against the head.

Yes Paul the alloy washers go directly against the head, however my kit came with three so you can put one directly against the case too. If you can't find a alloy washer that fits just use a copper one with a micro film of sealer. Make sure to follow the torque specs.

This looks just about the way the kit parts look. Thanks for posting the pic so the arrangement of washers is clear.
