Ok, in my brilliance I bid on a pair of 35mm Gardner carbs, thinking I would get outbid at the end. Well I won. Not a bad thing, but does anyone know much about these. I have found very little info in my searches. I did find that Mr. Gardner is still kicking and making carbs. But he does not have a website. I'm sure some of you racers out there have had experience with these. Thanks for any info.

Gardner carbs!

Hi

Ron is alive & kicking & not the type to ever have a website, although I believe his son is getting more involved in the business. My friend John runs an Atlas /Commando sprinter & has gardeners fitted. I dont think Ron will be able to help with settings. John believes that he will have to pump fuel to the floatchambers as he believes thay dont fill fast enough for the carbs at the end of the quarter on full bore. Let me know what you need & I will ask Ron or my mate John!

all the best Chris

ps my mate Graham was running them on his *50 Commando vintage racer last season.

Amazing shipping from France, about 6 days. I got a notice that they are at the post office. I'm going to pick them up tonight. Then on to the fun of seing how they work.

Gardner carbs give a huge horsepower gain, but the flat slide only closes half a lap after the throttle, by which time the rider is in the catch fencing - evidently the fat engine pulses make the slide ratchet shut. Maximum safe revs are a heady 12,000, although with a 34mm carb the mill runs out of breath at 9,000. Some indication of the single's success is the fact that it comprised half the field in the 1984 World Speedway Final and ten of the eighteen runners in the World Long Track Final.

Racers prefer Weidelich's big Gardner carbs so these have been sold to people all over the world, with very good kudos such as, "I found 4 more hp on the dyno--thanks mate."

Best person to speak, without doubt, is Ron Gardner himself (note correct spelling !) . Ron's phone no is 01444 233485, available between 9am and 8pm. Ron offers advice on all problems re fitting and tuning his carb's, and also has spares available for all the models he has manufactured from 1947 to the present day. He has recently started to remanufacture replica's of the original 1947 B series range for anyone competing in early classes around the world.
