G15 / N15 parts lists

Anyone have any idea where I can find a G15 / N15 parts manual / catalogue online? Likewise a Matchless G12?

In fact any general books and literature of these particular bikes I can study? Things like frame numbers, variations of the atlas engine and gearbox between the Matchless G15 and the N15 etc. etc.

Would be appreciated.

Thank you I appreciate that, found some parts lists in the workshop manual but it is really for an Atlas bike and I don't need a workshop manual, what I really need is some books or discussions about the engines etc. changes over the years etc. in particular the G15 transmission.

Details you either learn by owning all the separate bikes and working on them or by reading books written by enthusiasts.

Also the G15 frame diagram appears to be wrong or not a G15, it's not a G15 frame I can identify, so I'm still after a parts list for that.

A G15 has quite a different frame to an N15CS, which is the compy matchless frame.
Can we narrow down quite what you have ?

Rohan on every forum you ask me what I have.

At the moment of my old bikes I have a Matchless G9, CB500T and just sold an XS-2 XS650. Would you like me to list my new cars, old cars and new bikes also? Ok... I have a Jaguar XJ Sovereign Diesel X350 in black owned from new, just sold a half original Cobra with a small block chevy................... etc. etc. etc.

Need I go on (sigh)? What that has to do with finding info on these bikes?

I was under the impression that other than the original early G15, the rest of the G15 CS and N15 CS were the same badge engineering other than the Matchless which used a Matchless transmission.

Would love to find some decent literature, free, fast and online is always nice but happy to pay for books etc. and do some reading.

And from your bikes listed just now, we are still none the wiser ?!
I don't believe it, you still didn't answer the question - no N15CS or P11 listed ???

There are quite a range of these hybrids, and anytime other folks have enquired on these,
it has proved FAR more useful for them to provide a pic of what they actually have,
and then the combined knowledge here has been able to identify what is what and which is which.
Rick T in particular has a number of these things, and can usually point out the differences if a specific question is asked.

My understanding was that ALL the hybrids used the Matchless transmission
And those alloy clutch cases are also matchless and hybrid only, since they are a different length to anything that a (totally) Norton used.
So the N15CS and the G15CS were TOTALLY identical apart from the badges - but only in some very specific years.

There are quite a few Matchless lists available for download, but if you don't actually have a Matchless then this will be no help at all.
It has also been suggested that there are no specific lists for some of the hybrids, so its not just a matter of consulting a list,
it seems the details need to be dredged up again.
There are a number of websites and webpages on the hybrids, you have googled and read them ?
I have a very large (private) picture collection of all this stuff which I can use for reference, since I am well aware that not a lot has been published thus far.
Anthony someone has been threatening to publish a book on these, but thus far still seems a distant dream.

P.S. The last time I looked, a Matchless G9 was not a single, so this vagueness continues ?

Unfortunately the reading on these is spread across quite a number of books and booklets.
Roy Bacon has published probably nearly a dozen or so !
"Norton Twin Restoration" is the blue bible for Nortons, and "AJS and Matchless Restoration" (or is that the other way round ?) is the corresponding AMC bible.
While some slag them as being incomplete, they provide an excellent intro to a large range of models over quite a number of years.
Anyone who knows the contents of those 2 by heart is already a complete expert/anorak !
And that is just the start - how far do you want to go ?

The complete history of the hybrids has yet to be written, BTW...

This is a typo, I included a Matchless single in the list which was an ex-WW2 army model forget which one was in the family for decades and was sold a while ago, I deleted it from the list while I was typing but left the single there, G9 is indeed a twin.

Well exactly this is what I'm talking about, I'm specifically after G15 CS / N15 CS material.

Best source for G15 literature is jampot.dk. Christian's site is a wealth of AMC information.

Both hybrid series used the Matchless/AJS version of the gearbox, which differs from the Norton in the location of the bottom mounting lug. If one looks at a Norton trans case, the lugs look to be at about 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock. The Matchless case is more like 4 and 12.

Only difference between a G15CS and N15CS of the same year is the badge on the tank. There are more than one Atlas Scrambler out there with G15CS/ stamped on the crank case. Later bikes came with two sets of badges, so they could be sold as a Norton or Matchless.

Mid-year 1967 (after about serial 121000) saw the change from magneto/monblocs to distributor/concentrics

All P11s and the last 1000 or so G15/N15/33 bikes came with Lucas distributor and Amal 930 concentrics.

There are a couple of threads on this forum about the G15 or N15, and there's the AJS & M website which has a forum specifically on the G15/33. If you go there, you will surely hear from Tony Curzon. :wink:

We are still a little mystified by the purpose of this thread and elusive replies, if there are no Nortons or hybrids on the horizon ??
Mere curiousity, a possible future purchase, building a bobber, writing a book !!
All perfectly valid of course, but if we are contributing words it would be useful to know the level of detail and accuracy required...

A previous thread did sound like roadholder forks (and brakes ?) were considered being fitted to an XS Yamahahahaha,
which triggered thoughts .............

Rohan, why are you "mystified" that a person wants to know about a particular model of bikes?

Before I ever owned a bicycle, I looked in every catalog and store in my hometown to figure out where it would be best to spend the few dollars I had. I ended up buying one from a catalog.

When i first heard of a hedgehog, I wanted to see what one looked like, so I found a set of encyclopedias (we didn't have a set of our own). Sure enough, there were several pictures of hedgehogs. To this day I have never OWNED a hedgehog, but I might be curious as to what they eat, so I think I'll google it and find a hedgehog forum. I hope you're not on that forum asking questions as though I might be interested in destroying hedgehog habitat...

Whereas mysterious-seeming questions keep springing up here there and yonder about dissrelated Norton and hybrid topics.

Now I'm on a quest to find out how these all gell together, and what this mysterious mission is all about.
But can't find a forum to get these answers.
And get some evasive answers, and even some like 'G9 singles'... !

Look Lord of the Rings there is no mystery about it other than I am interested in said bike/s and have been considering buying one as a project, and I'd like to just know all about them before I delve in!

Is there a problem with that? You keep banging on every thread I am on every forum derailing it, because you appear to have a/some problem/s with me/them!

I have read 2 books so far on the fall of the British motorcycle industry, because I find it interesting, do I need to explain the psychology, neural pathways and metaphysics behind why I find the subject interesting????

Yes but why should anyone have to go through all that on several different threads and on different forums to satisfy your insatiable and pushy curiosity? Killing and derailing every thread you go on?

And if I did try to make an XS yamahaha as you call it into a P11 (although a completely ridiculous idea) whats it to you anyhow??? Are you some sort of Brit bike internet detective / enforcer ?

and said "my front brake doesn't work very well"
then the 1st question would likely be "what model" ?
