Fuel tank lacquer or no lacquer?

I have just found an original Roadster Tank and would like to get it painted. My question is, was there lacquer over the graphics on a 1973 Commando? Also were the stripes hand done as Triumph did?

My original 73 steel tank 850 had no Lacquer/clear over the graphics with hand laid striping, also not cleared.

My 72 has a 75 tank in black with gold decals and hand painted stripes, no Lacquer. Clear coat is a successor to Lacquer and was developed after Norton shut down.

Don't use lacquer clear coat on a tank. Gas will damage it. Use Spraymax 2K. It dries as hard as a rock.

My 1977 T140 Silver Jubilee paint was all cracked/crazed. I was told it was a (factory) laquer paint job. Any experts here know if that was true?
