A quick question, in the interest of not screwing up existing parts. I am trying to take off front wheel. Took off the front fender, caliper assembly, and the front spindle nut. I assume that "tommy bar" bit in the manual means to put a rod into the hole in the other end of the spindle and pull it out. It won't budge. How do I get this out, or am I missing something. Check old posts and don't see this question. thanks in advance...

Did you loosen the bolt at the bottom of each slider that clamps the axle?
Then put rod on end of axle and tap to get it moving

It seems you have missed the pinch bolt, as you didn't mention it. It's underslung and inboard on the opposite end from the nut. Occasionally, I have seen axles rusty and jammed into the bearing inner races if the previous mechanic didn't grease the axle before insertion, or on neglected bikes that sat out in the weather. If you have to drift it out, use a SOFT drift (aluminum is best) to avoid damaging/marring the axle.

I did remove the bolt on the bottom of the left front fork. Trying to avoid the use of the BFH. Alloy drift is a good idea, I was using a board (wood.) Bike did indeed sit in rain, but I am in Arizona, so precious little of it, but probably 10 years of so out in weather.

Thanks for the help. Always appreciated.

If it's been that long and outside, it's probably rusty. Put some of your favorite sauce on it too, just make sure everything is loose, take out that pinch bolt completely on the left. A heavy drift will help, but one that's smaller than the bolt, but a hard wood block is better. You should be able to get it to move with wood and brace the left slider. Once it's moving, more sauce and turn it with a bar in the hole.
