Hi, most probably a dumb question but I've replaced my original mount, '69 S with another one from Ebay and notice that the right tube ( where the adjustment is made) is longer than the left, can anyone offer an explanation please, David
It's because the engine (cradle, gearbox) is slightly offset to the left of the frame centre line.
(Note that the tube lengths of the 850 Mk3 front Iso. mount are equal length, as the Mk3 vernier adjuster collar that fits at the right-hand end of the assembly is wider)
Not the Mk3 type unless you get the tube machined to match or buy the vernier type ready modified to suit pre Mk3 tube. Takes about 5 mins to shorten the tube in a lathe.
If you are in the UK then PM me and I can shorten your tube on my lathe if you pay the postage both ways. If you are not in UK then get someone to shorten the long side so it matches the short side in length.
Many thanks for all the advise and offers of assistance, I'll go and check which version vernier I have as I purchased my Norton as a basket case ( not unlike myself)
Unless "06.4665/1" is the 'Mick Hemmings' type, which I doubt it is (no photo) the AN "pre-Mk3 vernier" adjuster requires the threaded Mk3 Isolastic and threaded fixed abutment.
