As I have finally decided to replace my original shim type front ISO for an older version of the vernier type that needs the front mount machined down, does the machining need to be equidistance from the mount plates or can it just be lobed off the longer end?
Yes I realise there are versions that dont require mount machining, just that this one is in hand so dont require answers on different types and models.
Regards Mike

Longer end only. Best wishes finding a machinist both capable and willing to do that tricky cut off and then actually doing it squarely. Works a treat after ward to diddle iso's till sweetest best isolated handling.

Could you not just buy the mount 06-5510 that fits?
I can't remember for sure, but I think that's the way I did mine.

" To modify the pre-Mk3 mount, mill the ends down so they stick out .250" on both sides. The stock mount sticks out .350" on the left and .610" on the right. "

IIRC it requires 1/4" machined off the long end. I finished mine on a lathe to ensure it was square.

What's tricky about that? It's not even a precision cut, just as long as it's square to the bore.

I have 5mm on the short side and 8.7mm on the long side (now) so figure I could machine down the long side to 6mm and shim the 5mm side so overall length of 105.5 mm (as paperwork recommends) or us an extra PTFE washer to meet the stated length.
Cock up by me and lobed off the long side only .
Note those 5 & 8.7 mm's are from the outside face of the plates.

I could do Mister Rick, it costs nothing for me for the machining and as this is my roadbike, like to keep all the original hardware on it if I can.
Regards Mike

Should have just bought the vernier iso kit from AN that uses the pre-MK3 mount without modifying it - simples!
