A little heat, some PB Blaster, and some luck, I've got the caliper apart.

There is some flaking on the backside of the pistons, can I reuse them as is?

Likely could re=use but at some point they will continue to decay so I think its stupid economy to re=use the steel rust pucks and master cylinder piston.
You lucked out finding your caliper almost pristine condition so no bragging rights or brute force destructive terror to open up then get pucks out. I've had two that about bent sliders or tore my vise off its mounts and left bone-joint muscle injury to my hands and knee caps. Even after getting caliper smoking hot and dry ice applied to the plug. ugh.

It was big relief when it came loose, I had searched this site and read a bunch of posts where things didn't go easy. My tool was two drill bits loosely held in the socket and a long 3/8 wrench, like I had seen posted except he had used a file with a hole in it. Heated the caliper, squirted some Blaster around the plug seam, it just sucked right in! Then the dang thing came on out.
I know I should buy new, but I always like to not buy at all if I can. What the heck, cheaper than a tank of gas.....

I picked up a set of stainless pistons, seals and new cover for about $70 on Flea Bay and it was a great deal! I bought the caliper tool to take mine apart from Old Britts but now there are several caliper tools also on EBay that are much cheaper than the one I purchased.
Definitely replace the pistons, good brakes are a must have!!! You are lucky that yours came apart so easy. When I pulled mine apart I had to drill a hole in the back piston, tap it and pry it out. Luckily the cylinder bores were in good shape and the new piston kit holds really good!! Just make sure when you put new seals on to lube them up at least with DOT 3 really good and take your time putting the pistons in! The outside piston will cut the seal real easy if you are not careful. Check the piston cup edge to make sure it is beveled and there are not any sharp edges, if so you can file them down a little to smooth them down. I posted some pictures of my seal that got cut so lean from others lessons!!!

Ok clearroad its refreshing to hear this task working as expected. If the area around the puck seals is not pitted likely just polish up and work as well as they ever did a long time if fluid changed enough to fluid water out before reacts.
I'm not the model of staying on top maintenance d/t injury or other priority.
