Hi
My Commando is a mk2a Interstate 1975 with the original lockheed front master cylinder . Has anyone any experience in getting the break light working from the front switch as this one has never worked.

What parts are required ?

Thanks

Neil.

Might be the switch, might be connections. I'd start by sliding the boot down off the switch and look for corrosion? Then trace your wiring. I'm sure there is a way to test across the connectors on the switch but....I'm just not that guy. Either way, an "easy fix".

I replaced mine, brake bleed too, six months later not working, again. :x

What did you replace it with? Where did you get the replacement from?

Ugh, short the switch terminal to see if it lights up, if so then ping a vender or go to Harley catalog and get the same thing with the terminal configuration that suits yours. Some are round Lucas pegs others universal blade type. Just cause switch may be faulty don't mean others ain't lurking intermittently.

I had this problem on my '73 Mk1 850 recently and it was corrosion in one of the bullet connectors. Trace where the wires go after leaving the switch and you'll find they go into a bunch of bullet connectors around the head-stock area, (assuming same as mine) it was one of these that was corroded inside the metal sleeve. It is of course worth linking the two connectors at the switch first though just to rule out the actual switch,

Dave.

Actually, it is premature for me to blame the new switch, I ave done no diagnostics yet. I just know that I have no brake light off the front brake right now, so . . . .yeah, could be a connnection or a bulb or the switch.

Got it from FairSpares. As I recollect it is not NPT but BSE or somesuch.

Unless yer a purist (and that's not a bad thing) ditch the OEM Norton Lockheed and get a Nissin front brake master cylinder. It also comes WITH the switch; for about $65. Buy some plastic coated braided stainless steel hose and some fittings from drag specailties and yer done ! All for like, $100. Just my 2 cents ...

And here is one on my ... er ... Triumph. Even with slanted reservoir so its level on the handlebars !

Interesting fitting to me norti - as those T140 bars so far, by far have been my favorite bars, tall enough to sit up right for cruise and to stand full up on pegs for leg stretching, drying off after rain or when head light is at waist level on ravine blast ups, yet can put head between hands for tuck down runs. Made for it fit of the alloy m/c really has an appeal as Ms Peel gets really close inspections after a run with the flashy plastic squid squadrons.

Here's what Wesley did for his '69 Bonnie drum brake.

The standard brake light switch thread is 3/8 UNF (same as the brake line end fittings)
