Hi all.

I'm sure this has probably been asked at least 25 times before but for the life of me, I cannot find it.

I am going to send my '70 frame out for finishing since it has horrible, very beat up powder coat and am going to need to ship it within the US. Do any of you guys have any suggestions as to the best way to go about shipping it? I know I can box up things like the engine cradle/swing arm, but I am inquiring about shipping the frame itself.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have heard of people shipping bare bones frames cheaply by Greyhound bus but this was quite a while ago and not sure if it can be done anymore. It would have to be delivered to and picked up at a bus terminal.

There isn't a local powdercoater nearby? I live in the eastern PA woods and there are several to choose from within 25 miles. I haven't used them myself, preferring paint. Try the craigslist listings in your area.

Edit: Greyhound will do it. Go to http://www.shipgreyhound.com/faq/

My apologies for not being specific.

I am looking for a nickel plater who can handle a frame. I cannot find one local to me in that I am very specific about what I want, but I won't get into that in this thread. I'll save that for a build thread later.

I don't have anywhere specific right now picked out, but I am assuming I will have to ship it.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I am looking into all options so it is greatly appreciated.

I bought a frame in Oregon on ebay and shipped it to me in BC Canada with just a waybill taped to the spine. UPS handled it well, no problems. I wouldn't ship a freshly plated or painted frame like that though. A busy bicycle shop often has cardboard boxes suitable for a Norton frame, so worth a check.

I shipped a Harley frame across the US with ups ground. Was around $80 I believe 1 way. The cost comes from the dimensions more than the weight since it is oversize. Items like this are usually ok since they are generally single loaded since they're not boxed. I just bubble wrapped the headstock and left the rest bare. Putting it in a box might be cheaper if it avoids the oversize costs from measuring it. Worth checking on.

I believe greyhound only ships terminal to terminal so your plater would have to go pick it up. Not sure but if I remember right that is why I went with ups.
