Country flag
I have a 1969 Commando with a widowmaker frame that I want to build as a custom. It has been raced. The frame looks solid but even if I weld in the extra bar, I am not sure that I will trust it. I bought a 75 complete frame-cradle-swing arm but it is apparent I would need to make some changes for it to work. A fellow has a 70 frame for sale near me (frame only). Can I use that with the 69 cradle and swing arm without altering anything?

The 70 frame will probably be easier the 75 frame will work and maybe handle better if you use the yokes for that frame
But why not just weld the bracing tube in? Any competent welder could do it

I don’t know the history of the bike other than it was raced. Is there an easy way to check the frame for stress cracks? Of course, I don’t know the history of the 70 either.

You can't get rid of the Flag, its part of the forum code, if you go on holiday abroad and post there the flag will change as it did for me when I was on the IOM last year.

The 75 frame would get you a more stable ride but would need 850 yokes and some other detail work, the 70 would be the easier to do and keep your current yokes but I would convert it to the 72 onwards side stand as that is the safest sidestand. If your current frame could be checked for cracks eg magnafluxed and passed the test then just have the lower rail welded in

Thanks. That is helpful.

Now I notice it isn’t the Canadian flag but I am not sure what flag it is. We are vacationing in Cozumel!
