In the for sale section right now is a matching numbers frame and cases with title in one thread, and at least 2 major parts lots in two other threads. Between them, we easily have the makings for a complete bike!

I'd be willing to pitch in a couple hundred dollars toward the project.

We could take a poll to pick a charity from member's suggestions. I vote for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation; a highly reputable entity with an indisputable mission.

All we need is a couple of members who live close enough together and would be willing to do the actual build, or several members who would be willing to do sections (engine build, powdercoat, paint, chassis build, etc) and also willing to transfer their work to the locale of the next stage.

It could be sold/auctioned at the 2014 INOA rally or some other major venue.

I believe we can do this.

Jerry, what do you think?

That's a great idea GP, I'm in. For starters I'll donate a wiring harness and two new K-81's.

I might just stick my skinny neck out there and buy the frame & cases from the "for Sale" section, if a couple of you fine folks will step up and help me out.

Anyone willing to take on the build? At least engine or chassis? Lower end or frame?

C'mon guys, let's do this.

How about suggestions for reputable nationally recognized charities?

May not be to everyone's inclination, but BritBike.Com has done a charity fundraiser for a particular young lady who underwent brain tumor surgery; it raised several thousand dollars. I wouldn't be against a member suggesting a particular recipient of the proceeds we could raise, as long as it was a truly needy case.

Jerry has mentioned he is spread pretty thin, so who might be in a position to manage the donations and expenditures?

P.S. - The 2014 INOA Rally will be hosted by the Oregon Norton Enthusiasts and held near Ashland, Oregon. We have about a year to build this bike.

I also have a nice set of late (deep) meter cups, a new low-rise handlebar, and a 110 link Regina chain. might also have some other decent used parts that can be refurbished.

well i don't think it could be for the Ronald McDonald house with all the fun people have been poking at him lately on this forum

Maybe the guys could set up donations to purchase in the access norton store. They would be items in the store at maybe like $10-20 increments that would go towards the build

That would be just fine; although I would hope it HELPS Jerry, not slows him down with his regular load.

I was gonna suggest building it in Oregon but I'm biased. My lift is going to be freed up by mid-July, so if someone did the motor and gearbox and I was given a straight frame we could do this. We could raffle it at the rally and give the proceeds to an agreed upon charity or something like that.

Building it in Oregon would certainly simplify transport to the INOA rally.

That really doesn't sound like a bad idea.
I'm sure that between all of us, we have enough spare parts lying around to make a pretty kick-ass bike.

I'd think that building it and then auctioning it off (or maybe a raffle) and then donating the proceeds could work pretty well.

I am in Milwaukee, so if somone could help with the transportation of parts I can do all the powder coating, most machine work and polishing. I can do the spindle mod and add a few of my bespoke bits. I should have room in the shop late summer if a place to assemble is needed.

I think it is a fantastic idea however I would be very cautious with a couple of those threads. Do your research!!
I have had contact with mkl123 and I was left less than impressed.
Check the thread concerned.

Good on ya for catching that scammer Dkt.

I have a decent set of yokes, two new tires, a brand new wiring harness, a late model taillight and housing, and a bunch of misc. AN parts. What does everyone else have to contribute? No worries and no hurries, I'm just trying to get the ball rolling.

Cheers

Thanks Snorton!!
i really like this idea. im cash strapped like everyone else but im sure i could find some bits and pieces in the pile of stuff i have.
We need an individual to take carriage of the collating of all the bits. it is not practical for all us members in Australia to be that person so i suggest one of you fellas in the states.
Grandpaul suggested the idea so he is an obvious candidate however given it is a forum initiative, i think if LAB or Jerry were interested in taking on the responsibility then this would be even better (as owner and admin for the site this is most logical).
The other suggestion i would make is to open a wanted thread with a list of everything required - no not complete norton
perhaps a donated spare frame would be good place to kick off.
Also, every contributor could have their name in some way noted, an assembly plaque and the part they donated???
or perhaps a modified parts list with the name of the donating individual for the corresponding part?
Not sure how many forum members we have but there are a shitload of parts in a norton, most not too expensive.

I have plenty of "bits and pieces".
but also a nice set of hubs, axles, spacers etc.. for a Mk 3.

I would think for starters, defining some parameters for the project would be in order.

Would we just build a bike? A motorcycle that a normal guy could buy and ride?
or
"Swing for the fence" and build a "world class" bike and get it ran over something like the Barrett Jackson stage?
(we all know that there is the talent on this forum to pull it off)

I believe that there is the potential in this idea to raise a real amount of money and draw a lot of attention to the forum.

Great suggestions mark.
I think it could potentially raise a great amount of interest and money for a charity and this can only be a good thing.

I have a spreadsheet, about 100 rows, of all the major parts, assemblies & components, for a build that could be used to check off needed items.

Jerry informed me that he is too busy to manage the project.

I can keep track of the "parts needed" spreadsheet very easily.

I like the idea of a nicely prepared special, but maybe that's a point for discussion.

Anyone think of any other charities to suggest?

The forum has worldwide members so it would be hard for non US members to suggest or maybe even to contribute to a
charity which would obviously have to be US based, even so I'm sure some aliens like myself would be happy to contribute where we can.

Hi Guys, as Madass points out, this is a global forum so hopefully the project wont be like the 'World Series " where only US teams are eligible!!!! LOL
For us guys in other parts of the world, maybe the easiest way to contribute would be to purchase the odd item on ebay , off the forum or from US based vendors and send to the builder in the US, as freight is a real killer from my part of the world.
Another possibility would be for any of the forum members in any one country, like here in NZ, to get together with all the parts they would like to contribute to the project, and send as a one off deal to save on freight and postage costs.
Regards Mike
