Don't rub it in for those in the UK. All foreign currency donations appreciated though ;)

Boris is helping us Norton shoppers in Canada and big thank you for that !

Yep, it was the perfect time to buy our two bikes to keep in the UK since we were transferring money from our US bank account to do so. :)

I have recently taken advantage of this situation and bought some products from both Andover and Groves Classics. (Velocette). I would say I wouldn't have spent nearly as much as I did, or went another route on a couple of parts if the exchange rate was not in this situation. I've had it go the other way in the past, and still bought from the UK.

ETA - service from Andover is stellar in advice, speedy response, and quality shipping and packing.

how you Englanders git a guy named 'boris'?...….ok ok we got The Donald but I likes him alright

Don't worry this valuation will correct itself... in a short while. we all still have to live and eat and have a roof over our heads. I think that the money swindlers who are in much part to blame for the currency unrest need to be dealt with... you pick your favourite course of action...

Don’t worry....! Why should we worry?

What the media causes many people to forget is that a weak pound is GREAT for businesses that export.

And businesses that export are the key to bringing currency into the country.

Can't argue with that. Keep exporting those sweet, sweet motorcycle parts, you won't hear me complaining!

Take my money!!

i did a big purchase of some alloy tanks the day before the brexit vote, assuming there was zero chance of that passing. egg's on my face...

won't get caught out this time. andover norton will have more than a few baskets to fill in the next few, i reckon.

might just be able to afford a manx or vincent in october!

I have found some interesting differences here in the UK re moto stuff. First - I have NEVER seen a dealer/shop anywhere in the US - and I've lived all over the place - that could match the selection available in moto-oriented shops in the UK. Fowlers, in Bristol, where my wife bought her Honda a few days ago has shelves and shelves (and Shelves and Shelves) of helmets of every type/description brand/color as well as racks and racks of clothing/gear. Further, their prices are the same or lower than internet prices.

I also discovered the advantage of being part (for now ;)) of the European union when buying stuff made/marketed in Europe. An AGV sport modular carbon helmet that costs $749 today from Revzilla in the US, is 338 pounds - about $411 at Fowlers!

I am sorry that the country that gave us Father Ted, the XKE, and Churchill is on a temporary slide. That said, may I ask how to take advantage of the disparity in currency values right now?

I will be ordering from Andover Norton for the first time. When does AN charge you for your order - at the exact time or day of the order? And do they use a lookup for the current Pound vs Dollar at the time of sale? Or, is the evaluation performed at a later date?

I hope I am being clear here. I can see that a dollar is equal to 1.22 Pound right now, but will I get that when I order? Or does AN perform a currency re-evaluation on a weekly schedule or similar such that you cannot know in advance what amount you will be paying?

AN isn't a banking clearinghouse. Currency conversion occurs in the dark basements of the banking and credit card castles untouched by
human hand. It's all computerized. They will get back to you usually the day after your order with a finalized cost including shipping.
When you approve it, the order is placed. You will pay no VAT if ordered from the USA, thus it is tax free. They are prompt, efficient and
helpful with inquiries. Even with shipping from UK, they will be less expensive than buying from a vendor in the USA regardless of the exchange rate. The difference in cost if the exchange rate of a dollar to the pound is 1.21 or 1.25 is not worth the time to think about it unless you were thinking of buying all of the parts for a whole bike.

My next question will be how to avoid taxes in the state I live in. I have had to pay tax on used motorcycle parts from eBay, etc. and I am sure the hand will be out for this AN order as well.

Thank you for the response and reminder about where the power lies in currency.

There is no apparatus for individual states to intercede in direct commerce between a citizen of that state and a vendor in
a foreign country by applying a tax. The exception is if the foreign entity maintains any brick and mortar sales or distribution
facilities in that state. AN parts can be obtained from many vendors in the USA and those vendors will charge a sales tax if
their state has one. For example, Oregon does not have a sales tax. Believe me! I live in the nanny state of California which
never misses an opportunity to collect a tax. Purchases from Amazon require payment of sales tax in most states as Amazon
maintains physical presence in every state. Taxes paid on eBay purchases are not from traditional auction sales, but from
vendors who maintain an "on-line" store within the eBay framework, and then that vendor must collect sales tax for the
state where the vendor is located. Clear as mud.

Many states require you to report and pay an estimated sales tax on items you have bought in which the tax was not collected as part of the transaction. I wonder what the compliance rate on that policy is...
