Hi all

Early 1968 commando

My drive side foot peg was badly bent so I tried to unscrew it... No luck so I welded a bolt onto it and with a breaker bar started to unscrew out of the hangar. It turned but didn't come out so I beat it out with a hammer and drift. Once out I can see that there is no thread on it and it looks like it is a perfectly machined surface.

It is not in the parts book I have for 1968 and the later model had screw in ones.

Did the early have a different set up... Press fit?

Thanks
Dean

I'm not sure of the fit, but the early type footrests are "one piece" so the pegs do not unscrew.

I bought some bolts, threaded the holes, screwed them in with Loctite, cut the heads off, couple of wraps of friction tape, splash of gas, pressed new rubbers on.

Thanks L.A.B

Yes press fit in. Will make some new one.

Cheers

Dean,
Just tap it to 7/16 NF. and get some newer type pegs that are threaded. If you ever snap one off its just so much easier to replace. But if you are a purist to the year then do what you got to do.
Cheers,

Pegs on my 69 have been replaced with thread on. Someone drilled out the press fit and added the threaded pegs by the time I got it in 72.
