Regarding my replacement foot brake switch, when "at rest" or not being depressed, I have continuity in the circuit. The brake light is on./
When the switch is depressed, continuity is broken....opposite of what is required for proper operation.
Makes no difference if I switch connections at the switch, same reaction.
This is too simple to be a big deal....or is it?
Advice and recommendations welcome.

How have you fitted it? When the brake is in it's resting position the brake light switch button is pressed in so light is off. When you operate the brake the switch moves with the pedal and the button is released turning the light on.

Some after market switches work the 'wrong' way around. Best to buy one from a Norton spares dealer. They look identical but work in opposite ways. The switches on my Atlas also are off when pushed in and on when released. Try RGM of Andover.

I think Nortoniggy has identified your problem. To further clarify .... when the brake lever is at rest, the switch button should be depressed, and when the brake lever is depressed, the switch button pops out.

You guys nailed it on the switch position in relation to the foot brake lever. I actually dreamed about this scenario last night. Novice mistake but glad the solution is so simple.
Thank you to all for you input,
