I'm having a little difficulty removing the flat circlip at the bottom of the fork stantion, the one that retains the metal bush, any ideas on how to best remove it?
I can tell you to be careful as I managed to stab a hole into my hand with one of my tools!
Here is what I ended up doing. Secure the stantion to the bench. Place a flat tip screw driver into the slot in the end of the stantion and rotate the clip so that one end comes up against the blade. Use a second screw driver to lever against the first to expand the clip and tweak it toward the end of the stantion. Have swear words at the ready for when it flies off and lands somewhere in the shop where even the mice won't find it.
As I recall, I used this pair of Snap-Ring pliers to remove my snap-rings (Circlips). These pliers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Also it might help to use a little pick or small screwdriver to help pull the snap ring off once it is expanded.
Ditto. That's the tool to use. If the circlip is rusted in place, you will need to free it up first by tapping on one end with a punch. Once it starts moving in the groove, the snap ring pliers will easily remove it.
