Happy New Year and welcome to our clutter of Norton Nuts. I think '72's are the cream of the Commando Crop, [bet your Daddy does too] but here's some kind words to keep ya interested in your 850... Ken Canaga is one of our Nortoneer God's btw and wants to blast some Nitrous Oxide in one of his wonders. Steven 'hobot' Shiver Arkansas Dixieland.

There are somewhere in the region of 150 new or changed parts on the 1975 model which all in all add up to one hell of a bike. To dismiss the Mk 3 as just another Commando (yawn) was obviously out of the question. There were too many changes to last year's specifications, too many great big galloping strides forward to cross it off as yet another variation on Bert Hopwood's original theme.

Welcome Dan, from another MK III owner in So. Cal. Orange County to be exact. Lots of knowledge here, enjoy.

Well let me clear up some on the own since new . I. bought it in 75 during what was called the jam breaker sale bonneville 1795.00 trident 1995.00 and norton 1895.00 or so I think. I got it from barney tillmans sport center in L.A. I kept it till 2000 then sold it to my uncle and got it back recently so as far as owning it since new I havent had it in my possesion all the time . I recall wanting a black one but couldnt find one that didnt have some sort of paint flaw chips scratcth ect so I settled on a red one. So its been in the family since new it has 9800 mi I sold it to him with 9700 mi .

Hi Dan

Some good Norton roads in your area...Rim or the World, Arrowhead in the San Bernadino Mtns. My first Commando came from Yamaha of Fontana, had 300 miles on it when purchased. I was at March AFB at the time, 1973. Hope you enjoy this forum.

Dan, apparently you haven't been harassed about not posting pictures of your bike yet.

It's official, we have them trained. I'm surprised Les doesn't delete any "first post" threads that doesn't start off with a picture....

Hey Dan, Just noticed you bought your Norton from Barney Tillman. He was my Dad. I just discovered that thru several DNA companies and Ancestry.com. I'm 72 years old and been a pilot for 50 years and an avid motorcycle rider for 55 years. I currently own four motorcycles. Weird huh? Guess my mom had a fling (she was single at the time) but never ever spoke of Barney. Wish she would have. I lived five minutes from his shop and home and 40 minutes at other times. I think we would have enjoyed each other...

It's a small world, isn't it? I spent a fair amount of time in Barney's shop back in the day, and bought quite a lot of Norton stuff from him.

Yup, Small World. Bought my 73 New from Barney. And some various bits including full Dunstall exhaust.
