Well, yesterday after humming and harring for ages I plucked up enough courage to order a 961.
I've gone for a 50th special, white, blue and red stripe California.
It's my first ever brand new bike at 59 years old (actually first ever brand new vehicle) and I'm absolutely made up.
I have ordered the long noisy pipes and de cat to start with, so hopefully the motor will run correctly from the start, thanks to Nigel's advice.
My only problem now is the 10 week wait (Clem says the factory has gone berserk busy)
but at least I won't be tempted to ride it in the snow.
wish me luck :)

Good on yer Sam.

What, with you and me, they seem to be rounding up a few long term ‘hummers’ and ‘harrers’ lately!

Your bike will look the dogs b*llox mate, just as soon as you fit clip ons and shorties to it...;)

Actually that’s made me think, a red/ white/ blue Cafe Racer would look pretty bloody cool...

I always thought the term was "hemming and hawing". Is that just another King's English term we tended to bastardize?? Congrats on your California. I don't love the swept back bars, but damn, that's a fine looking motorcycle. Surprised nobody on this forum decided to go with a straight drag bar from another maker other than Norton and the clip ons.

Well done - best thing I ever did last year at a similar age! Should arrive at just the right time for the good weather. Keep us posted on progress.

Regards Clive

Wish you all the best Sam! 10 weeks isn't so bad, that's about how long I waited and probably how long it will take to get some decent riding weather back :)

I saw my first red white and blue one at the last Kempton jumble, and looked great, apart from the Cali bars, not to my taste....

Not yet mate, I phoned the factory a couple of weeks ago and Clem said it would be another 6 weeks. Such is life !
Liked the article on your 2 bikes , though he doesn't seem too enthusiastic about the 916.

I was told 12 weeks for my domi naked, so hopefully 3 or 4 weeks to go!! I think I’ve watched every YouTube video and read every article I just want the bike now

Maybe the TT delaying it or a surge in sales. Thinking back, ordered mine on November 22nd 2017, received 31st Jan 2018 so smack on 10 weeks I think
